Recently purchase a 2018 Tundra TSS offroad. In cleaning her up, I noticed a good amount of exhaust residue on the bumper and paint. How do I get this off? I have tried hot soapy water, 91% alcohol but no dice. What you guys recommend?

Also, want info on exhaust tips. Thinking that if I put on a longer exhaust tip that I can avoid this problem. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

@War Machine and @Pudge should have something for you. They are a few of our go to members when it comes to cleaning and detailing. Also check in the detailing section of the forum. A lot of good stuff in there.

A clay bar should work. Also make sure you seal.or wax the area really well for ease if future cleaning.

Also a product called Tarminator made by stone should work well. I love that stuff for all sorts of uses. Its a bug and tar remover but works for everything I have thrown it at

Aluminum foil dipped in water works great on removing exhaust residue and other gunk off chrome. Works real great. My 14 had the same issue on my bumper. Polishes it up good. Wad it up and dip it, new looking chrome. Doesn't scratch chrome so don't fret about that. Works better than polish. Try it. You will be quite surprised!

Is that normal? I'm on my 2nd Tundra and have never had that happen.

Done.. that f**king quick! Use Aluminum foil. 4 minutes. It works! Haven't bought chrome polish in years.

Soooo...that was a royal pain in the ass. I have no idea what the previous owner did but obviously he wasn't paying attention to that area (the rest of the paint looks miraculous).

I started with the Terminator. Surprisingly, it didn't do much. (I would think that stuff could remove anything). So, I moved on to a wash followed by the clay bar. The clay bar took off a lot of the surface stuff but there was still a residue that wouldn't come off. Like kinda of hazy, brown looking. It look like it actually needed a bit of a polish so I tried Scratch X2. Low and behold, it worked with a little elbow grease.

Moving on to the chrome bumper. I used the aluminum foil as recommended by @Black Wolf. Took off all the surface gunk pretty quickly although the scratching of the foil is like nails on a chalkboard. Followed with Mother's chrome polish and it looks great.

Even after a wax, I think I am going to need a longer exhaust tip. There was simply too much exhaust residue

Thank you for all the tips. It really was a team effort. If anybody has an exhaust tip recommendation, please let me know. Thank you!

Scratching sound? Did you use water? I get zero scratching sound. Ever. Aluminum foil is softer than steel. Way softer.

Yes, but there was a layer of gunk that, at first, was pretty scratchy. Turned out great though

A couple weeks ago I made a 500 mile road trip in my new Tundra, had just 640 miles on it at the time. The next day while looking it over I discovered the same basic thing. Well it washed off easy but I was rather surprised to see all that exhaust residue there. I too am thinking about an exhaust pipe extender.
Something else that works very well on both chrome plated steel and polished stainless is "0000 steel wool"

Does anybody know the inlet diameter for the tail pipe? The TSS I bought has an exhaust tip with an interior collar which makes it kind of hard to remove. If somebody knows the diameter that would be great so I only need to remove once. I think it is 2.75 but want to make sure
