    New here. Be gentle.
Well, got an education today, or so I think...
Went to an accessories place to speak to someone who customizes vehicles. He told he does a lot of Toyotas from three dealerships.
I told him that I wanted to discuss a conservative "elevation" of my 2016 Tundra SR5...Changing 18" wheels to 20" and low lifts so as not to screw myself when it comes to how the truck operates and future repairs. (I hope you're with me so far. Doing the best I can since I don't have the expertise that you folks do.)
The guy proceeded to tell me that newer model Tundras respond to feedback from the computer, which gets its information from the axle/wheels. If I have this right, if I put larger wheels on, I'd have to compensate by getting a lower profile tire, which defeats the actual elevation and look.
Furthermore, he suggested a lift kit to raise the front up by 3" and back by 1". He also informed me that even though I only have 21,000 miles on it, I should replace the front struts since it's disassembled anyway.
Have some fun at my expense, boys. It'll be worth any constructive advice. Thanks.

Welcome from CO. A three inch lift and 20 inch wheels won’t screw anything up. You may need aftermarket UCA though.

The wheel and tire advice is garbage. You don't need to change wheel size, and there is no info sent from the tires and wheels except tire pressure. You could safely and easily move up from your stock 32" tires to 33", 34", or 35" tires. Plenty of people here run 37's. Go check out the Wheels and Tires forum and see the sticky thread up top, the Official Tundra Wheel and Tires Setup - Pics and Info. You'll find hundreds of photos of different setups with specs.

Can't believe an "expert" stated that you have to keep the same diameter as stock for your wheels and tires with a 3/1 lift. His modified trucks must look like shit.

Maybe the tech just phrased it wrong. The larger tires and wheels will effect the speedometer, MPG readout and shift points because the computer thinks the OEM size is on there. You could install a hypertech in-line calibrator to fix that.

    This ^^^ right here.

Since we can't see your truck it sounds like the shop guy is referring to "leveling" your truck when he says 3" front and 1" rear. Is that what you want (again, assuming your truck has the factory "rake" profile to it)?

Welcome from the cradle of the confederacy.

20" will cost you more than 18" and make it appear less tire and more wheel.

Save $$ & go with 18’s... 3/1-1.5 lift in my opinion is just right. Search this forum you’ll find all the info you need and then some! You gonna get harassed until you post some pics!

If I stick with 18's and go with the 3:1 lift, what width tires without f'ing anything up? Probably want fender flares if wider tires, yes? After market wheels just as good as Toyota? Any brands to stay away from?

And MTRock, thanks for the warning. I pretty much accept the fact that if I don't know as much as you guy I'll get my balls busted. Such is life. If I can gain some knowledge from enthusiasts, it's a good trade off.

    Not many yet, mostly stock.
Check out the threads for lifts, tires and wheels. There many lift combos, you can see parts suppliers on this site too,
All depends on your budget. I’d stay with 18” rims as the taller the side wall, the better the ride. You’ll feel every bump with a skinny side wall. Look at back spacing or the wheel too. Don’t buy a new wheel and then need spacers. Go under home page find “site navigation “
Look at all the category's you find all you need most have pictures

    good luck

Was this an accessory shop on Colfax and Kipling? I know the shop in that area does lots of builds for multiple dealers.
