    Hello all

i have a 2019 crewmax with 10k miles on it, very light use; no towing and mild hauling and driven lightly. Since 3 months after leasing the truck ive had a noise that i can only describe as chirping coming from one or both of my rear brakes when theyre lightly pressed, with the noise going away when pressed harder. It was replicated at the dealership and on 3 seperate trips in, it was supposed to be fixed. Each time the service manager has told me they heard the noise, took the brakes apart, found nothing out of the ordinary, cleaned them and put it back together. Each time i get the truck back the sound is gone...for a few days or a week...then its back again.

originally the only time i heard the noise was when lightly touching the brakes, as i said, and it would stop as soon as moderate pressure was applied. Now, since the last visit to the dealership a month ago, its makes the braking noise AND it “chirps” when just driving without touching the brakes. The sounds, when braking and when just driving, are both in sync to the speed of the truck (slow down as the truck does). The new sound im guessing is a warped rotor sound, but the original sound is still underermined by dealership and both are driving me nuts. I love the truck but im fed up wkth having to hear this noise whenver my windows are open, especially on a new truck. I have videos but they may b too large to load onto the forum, but ill try once i figure out how as it will be my first video uploaded. Thanks for any suggestjons in advance.

I go thru bedding procedures with all my trucks when I bought new and have not had issues. Not sure if you did to your truck after you purchase. Try bedding the new pads to the rotors.

Actually...I took off my calipers when I took my spindles off.... after putting everything back together(no new pads or rotors) the chirping started. I've meant to take them off again and see what gives.... interested in if this has happened to anyone else

Havent done anything to it really, just drove it off the lot and had no noise for a few months...broke it in properly i believe but the damn noise wont go away...im thinking mayb toyota uses poor quality pads or something but im far from an expert on their products.

I should add that the service manager is a friend of a friend so im fairly certain theyre not jerking me around. But its to the pt that im about to bring it to a private mechanic and pay to have it looked at just to see if its toyota missing something.

Im thinking the rotors are the culprits when theres no brakes applied, but what the hell it could be when brakes are applied, that cant seem to be fixed after 3 visits to dealer is confusing me. And what could you’re so wrong back there dad I’m getting multiple issues from the rear brakes time and again… I’m wondering if having them replace brake pads, calipers and rotors would solve all the problems

Dealers use mechanic helpers for problems such as these. I doubt an actual mechanic looked at your issue. It may behoove you to take it to your personal garage for further review.

Yes, i believe ill have to bring it to my own mechanic and pay to have it fixed. It will be worth it not to have to hear that damn noise anymore (finally i hope).

No solution yet. Due to this crazy virus mess it’s extremely hard to get anywhere at this point… It’s strange how when taken apart and put back together at sealer the noise will go away for a week or two and then come back which makes me think brake pad quality or lubrication… The sound suddenly now being there when brakes are not applied makes me think that it’s a rotor issue as well that wasn’t there b4. I keep trying to upload a video from my phone of the noise to my posts, but it gives me error messages each time

Sorry new to the forum and just realized the time stamp on this issue lol I agree have had the same bad luck with mine. “ can’t find anything wrong, can’t hear it”. Literally had mine booked in for an oil change before this virus happened and to look into this brake sound and a day before the appointment the sound went away so told them not to look into it. Now of course it’s back and louder. Most annoying sound ever! Like you said when you apply the brakes harder sound goes away. Brutal to because the best part of these trucks is having the back window down but also let’s you hear this sound....

Mine never goes away on its own, only for a week or so after the dealer takes it apart and puts it back together

I don't think it's a rotor issue, because like I said before, mine was fine till I removed the calipers to change out the spindle and after putting everything back together I now have the noise.

I don’t know if it is similar on the newer trucks and our Tundras but on one of my older ford pickups I had this same chirp issue anytime I would change direction from forward to reverse and vice versa. Obviously there should be no lube or grease where the pads contact the rotor, but because the pads float slightly they would chirp as they moved the little bit in position, and needed to be lubed or greased. They actually make a high temp grease for this.

On my ford I would have to grease the back side of the pads, the pins, and pad tabs periodically and it would take care of the problem for a long time.

Yes, i meant to ask that and deleted the question by accident. Ive never heard of that. Is it specifically for pickups? Ive owned many vehicles in my life, and driven many more in my line of work and ridden them hard and never had a problem like this with any other car ive driven.

60 mph then brake to 5-10 mph about 5 times to get brake rotors and pads hot. Helps get rid of rust or build up

Well I’m stumped to fella. Had the wife literally just drive the truck forward with brakes lightly applied so I could make sure which break. (Right rear). Took calliper off and pads all looked normal to me. Found a little piece of plastic off one off the clips though maybe that was it?... took it for a rip, didn’t make a sounds first handful of times. Stopped to pull in the drive... it’s back. No idea what it is, sounds like metal on metal sound to.

Yes, definitelt metal on metal sound...like worn brake pads only not a continuous squeal but almost vibrating chirp

Well just got the truck back wasn’t making the sound. They said it was the undercoating on my leaf springs was sticky and was making a sticking sound...? I was like but it only makes the when I step on the brakes?.. anyways took the truck home. Pulled in the laneway. Could hear it ever slightly. Driving home from work today, it’s back to usually. Unf*cking real, it’s going back Wednesday to look at it again. Stay tuned..
Question for you though, does yours make the sound in reverse? I can creep forward and it makes the slow chirp sound. But in reverse nothing?

Cheap pads and retainer clips...try the brake pad lube as well as bedding them properly...my Audis do this when I don't use quality pads...

I'm sure you've checked, double-checked, and even triple-checked, but could it be the dust-shield making contact with anything?

Havent checked in reverse, i will tomorrow. The dealer lubes it when i bring it in each time and the sound goes away for a short while before returning.
