In other news. It’s raining. It has me wondering about installing a rear wiper on the cap just because.

I know I won’t. But it crossed my mind.

I’m always lurkin and creeping, watching the property. One morning I watched a guy disappear behind the 4runner, never saw him come across the view, then noticed the shit brick with a flash light, starting to look thru the windows. I went to open the garage and tackle/chase him, the door was too slow, caught my back, made a huge ruckus and got to the car as he was jumping on his bike and pedaling away.
Another time I woke up to the security lights on, one motion sensor dangling from dick bags tearing it down, and my cable cut on my freon rack on the van; they got 1 jug of r22, which was worth some money, and 2 jugs of 404a which wasn’t worth much,’pretty sure I just missed them. But that’s why I always try to be alert and watching the street, watching for the out of place, which is frequent sadly

Inspecting the Honda again to figure out the persistent #2 misfire.

I didnt notice this last time around and not really sure how it would happen. The cam on the exhaust side has a line ground all the way across. Also spotted a grind mark on the far end. It would take pretty good force to do that.

@empty_lord any ideas? This model of K24 only has vtech on the intake cam, the exhaust cam doesn't have vtech and just one lobe per cylinder. Car had 200k+ miles and good maintenance history.

Have the valves ever been adjusted? They need it periodically

Yeah they've been done every 50k. Honda did them about a year ago and the misfire returned so I'm checking them again. One valve on #2 intake was pretty loose but the rest seem okay.

Almost looks as if the cam was dragged on something, like on old overhead valve motors where you have to carefully put the cam in the motor, but this motor has caps so I can't figure out how it got carved up. Lobes don't really look affected.

Weird it’s only one cylinder. Unless the roller on the rocker is worn (assuming it has one, I’m not too sure on Honda’s)

@FrenchToasty did you buy a new axle seal from ECGS when you bought the clamshell bushing? I'm not sure if I need this or not.

Theoretically yes. I've only read of one person checking them and they were still in spec after 200ish thousand.

    Tis a joke.

At 192k there were none even close to out of spec
My tacos first valve adjustment was at 290k. Only 2 valves slightly tight.

If your doing the bearing, order a new seal from Toyota. Better to replace it than to Risk it leaking and having to take the axle out again

Well the plot thickens. Intake cam has the same odd ground down look.
    20200510_162357.jpg
    20200510_162411.jpg

I can't imagine that's a factory intentional marking because each cam has stamped letters saying part number and int it ex.

I can't imagine the rockers scraping the cam, even if they did they don't span the whole length of the cam and they would not grind near the caps. Really weird.

Seems like the casting was ground off at factory. If you look on some other areas of the cam shaft, the same look appears with painted/sludged look. Put it back together and send it.

@empty_lord @Professional Hand Model @FrenchToasty I'm glad to know it isn't damage at least.

Just about all the exhaust were pretty tight. Intake valves were just about right, so I adjusted what I needed to. Idle was smooth at first but after going on a 3 mile drive it feels a little rough again, the cel didnt leave either.

I'm gonna check the spark later this week, if that passes maybe I'll swap injectors from #2 to #4. If that does nothing I'll do a leakdown on #2 and see what happens.

It’s possible you may have a burnt exhaust valve if it was too tight when they did it last. Do a leak down test after it’s all adjusted

You, that's the plan. I still want to check the spark and fuel to be safe. Debating in my head on if I want to pull the head and have it refurbished or just swap for a lower mile long block. Looking at the car it seems that the core support can be unbolted so perhaps I could swap the motor at my house over a weekend. If I can pull the motor through the front that's a win, if it has to be dropped with the sub frame I'll need to get to a lift.

They’re stupid easy to pull. But the bottom end is probably fine. May be cheaper for just the head

since taco will be running in the near future i need to decide on the wheels and tires for the tundra. not buying yet. but start really thinking.. was considering the TRD sema wheels but at 7" wide they do limit tire choice to under 285 (you can push 285s.. but your on the verge of the tire being easy to debead.

so i was thinking i can get my coopers in 275/70r17. its a bit larger than a 32" tire. think the fit would be good.

other option is more costly. but SCS f5s really look goo to me... man the choice is hard. but no matter what 17s are what im going with. i want to eventually upgrade to 14WA calipers.

Somebody on the FB FGT page was asking about running 305s on those wheels and I mentioned this too...you would not believe how many people started telling me I was "full of shit" cause they had run "315s no problem bro!" I just said, "Hey, your beef is with the tire manufacturers, not me" and left it at that....never again.

I really like my 255/80/17s and I think your coopers come in those as well...but I realize the skinny look is not for everyone...
