Installed JBA long tubes

You’d have to research it more, see if Camry sensors cross over to ours. I just searched o2 extension harness, not sure if it will actually fit our o2, but something does exist

 

It sorta kinda looks like the 4.7 Dodge extensions will mate up

 

Money and time wise. I wouldnt say it was worth it, just to do it. Since I had to take my old headers off to redo gaskets, I figured might as well upgrade manifolds. Exhaust was rotten, might as well replace all.
I noticed maybe a bit in the top end. I'd like to think there was something extra off the line, but probably just the noise and high Hopes if anything.
It's the same as my other truck. A twin turbo cummins. Same example. I did a cam in that truck. Worth the time, and money for the difference? Nope. BUT, since I was pulling the motor and doing other things. Might as well do it while it's easy.

 

But long story short. Looks like I'll just keep my home lengthened o2 sensors (I was just hoping somebody already had lengthened sensors so it wouldn't be going through butt connectors and such) and find some heat resistant wire loom, and maybe like another poster said, see if I can rig up another heat shield. Which I dont think I can off of anything. But maybe get creative. Thanks guys.

This feedback has me wondering if I should spend my ‘stemillus’ somewhere else.

I’ve read the short tubes reviewers say they got some throttle gains at all bands/rpms. Have not been able to find Long Tube reviews outside of the sellers claims.

Seems like short tubes keeps the job isolated to just the manifold. Only snafu is the o2 bung on pass side making future replacement nightmarish if needed.

Long tubes requires an entire new design from engine all the way back.

This diy job (long or short tube) looks like it would suck.

 

Im looking in to getting some myself.

 

I think both long and short tube users have had mixed reports. Not sure if it's because of variables like what other mods they have, or if it's a matter of butt-dyno calibration.

I think long tubes are definitely more work and have a greater gain potential, but I have never had them so can't really say. I've considered getting them since I have the JBA carb sticker from my shorties, but that would be illegal so I would never do it.

I wish the TRD mid length were still available to help the indecisive.

 

I haven't even seen the TRD mid-length design. I would be interested in those if they were available but since I got a decent deal on the JBA Shorties I'm going that route.

 

@imDementeD they are believed to be extinct. Here is a thread where an old buddy shows some pics of his. He collected a lot of rare Tundra parts back in the day, I really wish I bought those off him.

 

Sorry for thread derail, but do longtube headers work with stock cats/exhaust?

 

That’s really cool to even see a picture of them. I wonder what company actually made them for TRD. Alot of the TRD parts are designed by other companies. I guess the Doug Thorley design looks about the closest if choosing something right now.

 

Yeah. Just looking at the Doug Thorley, the design looks ultra efficient compared to the others. @FrenchToasty quenched me desire on that link to them on the 4runner site.

 

Seems like with the long tubes lots of retrofitting needs to happen. A resign of the pipes under the truck. Short tubes are plug and play (easy to say and harder to do).

 

Yep, they look pretty sweet. I just looked on URD’s website and they actually have them in stock. I’m surprised, cause the DT website says out of stock.

 

Nice. Seems like there is a mad run on just about every DIY project anyone can do right now. ‘Working’ from home is all the rage!

My stemillus still is on back order. Might be December before it arrives! And I’ve always paid my taxes on time!

 

I here you on that front. Also, the only drawback with the DT headers is the cut and weld part of the install. So it has the potential to be a non DIY project. That’s why the JBA shortys are such a popular choice with first gen guys.

Hmm... yes there was a gain. Is it worth the money and time to do it just because? I dont think so. If your in there anyways or have a reason too be. Than yes, might as well.
And as long as you have all new exhaust, a short trip to pretty well any welding shop they can get it glued together. (I chose welding shop because I was having trouble finding an exhaust shop that would do stainless. Seemed weird to me)

Butt dyno calibration. I have a feeling that's it. Alot of people confuse noise with more power. Or want to believe the HP numbers on the box when they install a shiny part on their truck.
At the end of the day, if your happy with it. That's all that matters.
I dont know what you guys do with your trucks. I use mine for 4x4ing, hunting, and fishing. If you do the same. Take the 1000$ and spend it on fuel on these thirsty pigs and just enjoy the truck.

And as far as the shortys having an o2 sensor location issue. Why not go to a welding shop, weld a plug in the old bung and get a new bung welded on in a friendlier location? I've never actually touched a pair of the shortys so I dont know the location of where it is right now. But wouldn't think it's a hard fix to do before you install. Especially if it's a known issue.

 

I feel like both o2's are accessible on the JBA Shorty's. I know I installed the o2 on the driver side after installing the header. On the pass. I installed it before because I thought I read it's an issue but there seems to be plenty of room. I'll double-check it.

 

I know for damn sure that when I taped a baseball card to rub the spokes of my bike as a kid that bike was faster.

 

My pass side o2 is almost at a 90 degree angle towards the block. @Darkness has said the same. I would recommend to anyone who buys the JBA shortys to please contact JBA if the o2 sensor location is screwed up. It’s not so much plugging the hole and having somebody weld a new bung hole. The bigger issue is that it shouldn’t come out of the buyers pocket.

This is my passenger side o2. Cat is out of the way but seems like easy access? Am I missing something?

 

Use a crow foot

$6 o2 socket , 7/8" (22mm) with 3/8" drive, universal fit for vehicle oxygen sensor removal

Give it a dry run practice removal like French Toasty says.

 

I located the Toyota Heat Shields for the o2 Sensors last night. I’ll have to go back and look but they were around $13 each.
