    oh trust me i know.

but thats the problem. once i get a little power i start wanting more and next thing you know you've got a vehicle with too much power for the street.
i think headers and what not later this year or early next year and just be happy with it. gotta get everything else done first.

All mufflers scream nice at full throttle. Laughable are the loud mufflers on a slow stock engine that can't lay a good patch on the ground with a posi rear end. A strong built motor is recognizable during start up and idle. The others with loud mufflers are just embarrassing to the owner.

However, if it starts up quiet enough and runs quiet until it's stepped on and gives a good growl like the 4.7 stock motor and exhaust does on my trk, these 1st gen trks are good to go.

    @Darkness

New clip because I was fucked up, and had a wild hair in my brain stem.

I would estimate that both "recordings" were made at a similar distance from truck.

I added a tail pipe to my exhaust. It sounds a little different than the side pipe, but not much. It’s much more noticeable from the cab.

    Acceleration run to come.

Oh yeah the drone gets so bad. I had a ten hour road trip a couple weeks back and I just slapped the muffler back in. So much better on the highway but I still wish I could have the goods around town. Cutout maybe??

I've decided I'm going to replace my muffler. I just re-read this thread. I think I'll pass on the aero-turbine since 2 different people reported mild to moderate highway drone. I don't want that. The Spintech looks promising. @Darkness you are happy with yours right?

My plan would be to leave the resonator unless someone has a good reason to remove it. I just want them to cut out the old muffler and install the new one. Don't see any reason to mess with it otherwise.

What other options are out there? Flowmaster and Borla?

Yeah I love mine. It is pretty loud outside the truck but inside not loud.

@jImmegart has the same muffler if you want a second opinion. Mine is a bit louder than his but might be the headers and lack of resonator.

Leaving the resonator in doesn't hurt, its not restrictive. I initially left mine in and after a while removed it out of curiosity.

Aero turbine also makes an XL version which is more tame with a built in resonator to eliminate any drone.

I wouldn’t quite say mine drones now that I have more miles on it and it’s broken in. It has a nice rumble and startup/idle, mild tone while cruising and a pretty big bark when it’s WOT. I honestly forget I have it until I step on the skinny pedal.

I’m sure borla makes some good options, stainless 1million mile warranty. Get something chambered not a straight thru, mine are like really loud. I don’t do much highway driving so I’m not sure if I have a “drone” or not

We have a borla on the 4runner and it’s very mellow and not obnoxiously loud, so they do make mufflers that are more tame; it just depends how loud you want it

I went from the turbine to the turbine XL and noticed very little difference when it came to drone.

This is the only one Borla lists for my truck. $500 is a lot more than I was intending to spend.

I'd just like it to sound a little meaner without being overly loud and without causing a highway drone.
