All professional sports players are overpaid. They are overpaid because fans (Adults specifically) fantasize and live vicariously through the players playing a GAME.

Just like everything in life - the value placed on a person or product is dictated by societal demand. Saying they’re overpaid is the same as saying you’re overpaid regardless of what you do or how much you make. Pro sports generates billions and billions of dollars. Where do you suggest all that money go if not to the people generating the revenue?

I would slightly disagree (and this is likely a very unpopular opinion, but hear me out)

The ratio of entertainer/athlete salary to overall revenue is probably right. As in a top actor or athlete as the “star of the show” should get a fair percentage of gross.

For example, if I pay $10 for an event ticket, the athletes or entertainers should, in my opinion, get a fair percentage of that - half would be my “fair” make.

The problem is that because there are so many layers and new hands in the jar in those industries, the overall revenue and profit demands have become ridiculously high. That $10 ticket is now $250 and everyone wants to maintain their same percentages, which for players I think they should.

If you look at MLB for example, player salaries have been pretty consistent at 45-50% of revenue for about the last 15 years. That way when the owners get rich, so do the players (which I think is fair).

Don’t get me wrong though... some of the numbers we are talking about are ridiculous but that’s the system bigger than player salaries.

 

Dang - I'm not on that big of a deficit. I've done several 24 hour fasting periods and am trying to work up to 36 or 48 hours.. I'm not really excited about it.

Entertainers get paid so much due to their product being infinitely replicatable at near-zero cost. Back before movies, vaudeville actors didn't make squat and were considered low-brow trash (classic theatre actors had respect but not a lot more money.) Sports people didn't make jack before radio, not much before tv and didn't really make crap piles they do now before cable. It's not a demand thing, it's an extreme case of economies of scale thing. An additional viewer just needs to tune in. No additional costs are borne to 'produce' an additional widget. The consumers even pay for their own tv and pay for cable, too.

 

The new alpha is bad ass though.
