Missed the engine filler port. Who else has done this?

I performed my trucks first oil change at 5k yesterday. Everything, went smoothly as expected. Except the pouring part. While I started pouring the last couple of quarts - I got completely distracted by something out of the corner of my eye - causing me to miss and pour maybe 1 - 2cups of oil all around the filler area. I can see some oil pooled up on top of the valve cover - no deeper than 1/16th''. I'd like to clean it up but the places are to tightly tucked away for me to get my hands. Does anyone have any estimates for how long the oil will take to burn off? I think a majority of the oil has dripped down onto other parts...as well as my driveway....

Lol, wipe off everything you can by hand. Next, get a power washer.

There is a product called Oclanosorb. Sprinkle it all around the oil spill. 2 days later use compressed air to blow the material off the engine.

No worries about water getting blasted where it's not supposed to be.

It's main ingredient is pulverized peat moss. It works amazing!

AutoZone carries a similar product, but it's a bit spendy. It still works the same and just as good, just not in as large of a bag. (You won't need a big bag).

Nah, me neither. NEVER did I do that before! :anonymous:

Tent a rag over the end of a long screwdriver and hold the rag up around the handle. Then, stick the screwdriver down in the close spots and mop up the oil. Change the position of the rag as necessary. Someone more clumsy than me said this will work like a charm.

But, if you want to feel better about yourself, a guy on another forum changed his oil, then wondered why the oil level was way high on the dipstick. He also mentioned that his transmission wouldn't shift either.

I use a funnel specifically designed for Toyota. It screws right into the neck and it’s large. If you miss that thing you have probably fallen over.

These are things I have used that screw directly into the cap opening:

    Milk or Tea Jugs
    Juice Jugs
    Etc etc whatever fits

I cut a few inches off the bottom and wash them out very well

Then screw them into the filler cap opening

    No More Spills

I have the same funnel. Also have the Honda lower chamber that screws into my son's Accord and the adapter for my wife's Sienna with a half-turn opening. It's a real help when you're trying to pour those 5 qt jugs with only 2 hands.

Agreed. You can get the same thing by cutting the bottom off a milk jug and screwing it into the oil thingy. I used an empty bottle of windshield washer fluid. Cut the bottom off, rinsed/wiped it out really well, and viola - a giant funnel that screws into the oil intakey thingy.

LOL, I thought I was the only one that used that half milk jug. First time my coworker saw me do this to his car, he thought that was the most ghettoist thing he'd ever seen in his life... besides all the side Mexican remarks he could come up at the moment. It was funny for a bit, but then got old fast and I stopped helping this dude.

My problem with funnels is the same as everyone's relationship with that 10mm socket (I have multiple, more than 5). They're there when you don't need it, gone when you do.
