My stock headlights are very foggy and yellow. On previous 4runner, I bought the Sylvania Restoration kit which is argued as one of the best, it looked great, for like 3 months then quickly faded back to looking terrible. I would try again on the tundra and maybe spray the lenses with quality clear coat after sanding/buffing, but I really want to do a retro fit and love the look of the black internals on aftermarket headlights. Which leads me to my question...

I've read many positive reviews and negatives as well so a bit conflicting. Some people swear to only use OEM headlights for the retrofit. I think if buying aftermarket it good to find a reputable brand with positive reviews. Just when I think I've found the "one" I keep reading and get discouraged by some more negative reviews.

So far I'm leaning towards these by AKKON
    https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Tundr...---------&vehicleName=2006+Toyota+Tundra&th=1

I did read one review on Amazon about the housing clear coat peeling after 16 months. I also came across someone on here who mentioned the same thing. Can you simply sand, and re-clear every couple years? Do HID's put out too much heat and cause damage? Wouldnt this have the same effect regardless of aftermarket or OEM housings?

After using the restoration kit, apply clear PPF (paint protection film). This is essentially a permanent fix. 3M and Xpel make pre-cut DIY kits for many cars which, given the uncomplicated shape of the Tundra headlights, should be pretty easy to install. It installs like window film. My longest application is now over 5 years running, with no degradation of the film, and no return of haze or yellowing. PPF works so well at preventing the oxidation of plastic lenses that leads to hazing and yellowing, that I also apply it preemptively on any of my vehicles before they even start to haze.

I have done a number of vehicles myself. For my Tundra, the lens were still factory clear since the PO (and me) park in a garage. So I have my professional window tint guy apply the PPF when he was doing my window tint, he usually charges $40 to supply and apply clear film to headlights and fogs.

    Give it a whirl.

I have those headlights. I've been running them for about a year and they're still in perfect shape. I would recommend sealing the seams with caulk before installing them though as the factory didn't do a really good job. I'm running LED bulbs, not HID so no comments with regard to that.

Bought a set of Made in Chi-na by Akkon from Big Guurrll from Brasil two years ago for $115. Side marker leaked after a month. Sent a message and they sent an entire new set. So far so good after a year and a half. Been using LEDs in them so no heat fade goings on which I’ve suspected a major problem with the originals fading so quickly with daytime running lights on all the time.

Like others suggest: Do some additional caulking prior to install. I didn’t, but you should.

So you both are running these with LED's. Does running a super bright LED throw light all over? In the past few vehicles I've had I put HID's in regular housings and it is very bright and nice, but throws so much scattered light on coming traffic doesnt exactly appreciate it and occasionally flashes their brights. Hence my reason for wanting to do a retrofit. Do LED bulbs have this same problem for you guys?

I aimed my lights properly and don't get flashed by oncoming traffic at all. I haven't noticed much scatter either.

After markets are plenty fine. I use them for all my retro fit builds. Sometimes the QC can be a little off but I’ve ordered/used more than 10+ sets with no issues.

I have aftermarket TYC from Rock Auto. $27 each.

I'm also running LED bulbs from Katana. The combo works well, I never get flashed.

I have LED Katanas in aftermarket Akkon assys.

The light output is pretty good. With fogs off, one can see some light streaks/scatter on the ground coming from the headlights assys. No scatter up high, though.

The fogs lights fill in the light in the area between bumper and where the headlights project out into the distance. A dynamic duo! Fogs are the PerfectFits from HR which are no longer called PerfectFit. They are under a new name, but probably made at the same Chiner factory. Great fogs which are my favorite light.

Back to the headlights assy and Katanas combo. Never been flashed. Not once. My lenses are aimed nicely. Truck has forward rake OEM style. I feather dusted the engine bay yesterday.

Not sure of your question, but these Katanas only operate in one or the other mode. Low Beam and High Beam are independent.

If it wasn’t for my fog lights PerfectFits, then I’d not be as happy about the total package.

I’ll post the screen grab of the Katanas I bought almost 2 years ago.

Okay, that's the one I was looking at but it no longer says HI/LO in the ad.

    Thanks.

Ok. That screen grab was from almost two years ago. Last time I looked, a few months back, Katana had another LED version without fans that fit our trucks. It was less money at around $34ish.

Go to Headlight Revolution and plug in your info under the foglight section. Mine were called PerfectFits, but are not for sale through HR anymore. They sell another brand that some say is the same, but I can’t vouch personally.

PerfectFit is a seperate company and you may be able to go through them directly. Just do an internet search and you should be able to figure things out on your own with the info I provided. Last I checked the prices were way less through PF than HR.

Let us know what you find out!
