OEM power tailgate installed today. Very pleased with the quality and ease of installation. It is well worth the extra price over other kits for the connectors, cable shielding, grommet, tailgate clips, etc. Everything you need is included and can easily do this yourself.

It’s also very quiet compared to the aftermarket one I put in my Tacoma. Fit and finish of this oem one is MUCH nicer.

I have a question about the Switch-Pro, did you just put it in the cutout below the shifter or did you use the SDHQ part? I am a bit confused by the SDHQ description of the part. Did you get their engine bay mount too or where did you mount the fuse panel portion of the switch pro? Any more thoughts on it after you've had it for a while? I am not really considering the SPOD anymore as the switch pro seems to be pretty awesome. Anything you'd do differently?

 

I used the SDHQ part for the switch mount. It fills the cutout and the switch panel fits in perfectly.

I used the engine bay mount too

if I were to do it again, I’d order it directly from switch pros with the connector unpinned. Mine apparently got jacked up when we unpinned it which caused some problems until we got it figured out. I ran it through the firewall through the nipple below the factory harness, forms a tight seal and clean install but you’ve gotta have the connector removed to run it through.

Otherwise I’ve been very happy with the install. I’d definitely recommend running the control wires into the fuse box like I’ve done, keeps things clean and looking like they belong.

I personally think the SPOD is huge for what it does. The switch pro is a much more compact set up.

I’m currently only running 2 things off the switch pro, but there will be more at some point. It’s well worth putting in from the start. I skipped it on my Tacoma and very quickly realized how much easier it made adding accessories but also the control you gain beyond just on/off is great. I was worried about accidentally leaving something on and killing my battery, the ignition switching was a big driver for me, the rest is icing on the cake. I use the high beam trigger on a near daily basis with my ditch lights set to come on and off via that trigger

 

Did they through bolt your camper on through the top of the bedsides or did they use the bed rails?
I'm trying to plan a bed build out but don't want anything to interfere with the install process when my camper is done.

Im in the same boat as you, was a Tacoma owner, read the endless thread on Tacomaworld, only to be disappointed that it wasnt available for my 2019 Tundra. Now it looks like that will change soon.

 

We removed the rails and bolted through the top of the bed side with 4 bolts per side. Then put the rails back. i don’t plan on ever taking it off and I still get access to the bed rails. It’s also probably more secure than relying on the rails

There are torque limits in the ecu that will limit it on the low end pretty significantly. Just that change was immediately noticeable.

They asked what I wanted when I was there. You can either bolt through the bedslide, theres a lip that bolts into the bed rails or you can use topper clamps.

 

At some point I had seen the dyno for that power attenuation, must be nice for drive-ability.

 

Cool, thanks for the replies. I'm excited to get the camper and get the bed build done. I'm going to use the same general layout I used in my Tacoma with the GFC, but the space in this bed will make it feel a lot bigger.

 

Yeah there’s a ton of space. And the truck doesn’t feel like a fat pig with all the weight, I don’t really even notice.

I’ve been really happy with this setup.

this is exactly what I was I needed. Truck corners significantly better now. Being as tall as I am with the weight of the habitat, it was fine off road but on road I had more body roll than I wanted

also have parts on order for the fuel pump recall and blinker recall. Should hopefully have those done soon

 

what size add a circuit are those? also what size fuse did you put in each?

 

they come with a 5 amp fuse and you put the one you take out in the other slot.

Fuel pump replacement is finally getting done tomorrow.

I’m going to be swapping the head unit to add CarPlay before too much longer. I’ll probably put in a HAM radio at the same time.

 

TRD Front sway bar is on its way. Between the discount and free shipping, i figured I might as well try it out.

Adding the rear definitely helped the handling of the truck with the weight of the habitat.
