Have a troubleshooting opportunity on a 2011 5.8L Crewmax 4x4: There’s a weird “creeping door” noise that comes from behind the dash to the right of the wheel. It happens in a few seconds when the engines starts and a few minutes after the engine is turned off. Makes me think something’s being energized/de-energized. I just bought the truck and there’s magnets below the rear window button - I think they had something installed that required them to remove the dash.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!!!

It’s the actuator for the vent system. It’s basically opening air ducts and closing the air ducts. At least that’s what I thought it was.

I read there was something that only happened if the thermostats were sync’d, but I hear it either way.

Is it ironic to go from a Tacoma TuRD to a Tundra non-TuRD that farts when you turn it on and off?

Agreed the actuator for the vent system. May be time for a new one. A friend tried to fix this issue on a different vehicle but ended up replacing the actuator. If you can get in there without too much trouble you might be able to lube the actuator shaft, so it operates smoother. The only problem with these units is most of them are plastic and once worn they need to be replaced.
