Haven’t seen a thread for rifle optics yet so figured I’d start one up since I’m currently setting up my DDM4V1.

I have rifles with high power scopes so not looking to go that route on this lightweight rifle.

The plan for this is to be a well tuned machine for situations inside 200 yds or so.

    How she sits currently:

    108AB513-1612-4A9D-808B-04FB64A861B6.jpg

Next up is a two point sling (thinking magpul or Vickers but open to recommendations).

I would also like some type of optic that will give me a lower 1/3rd co witness with my irons.

So far I’ve narrowed it down to the following:

    Eotech Exps2-0
    Aimpoint PRO
    Aimpoint Micro T-2

Anyone have experience with any of these? The Micro seems like the best fit for this lightweight rifle, but for some reason I’m leaning towards the eotech. Something about that reticle that I really like. Any recommendations? What are you guys rocking on your builds?

If I HAD to pick between your options I would go T2 - I love mine.

Thanks! I’m loving it so far. It was my first non hunting rifle purchase, figured I might as well save up and do it right. I’ll have to check out the Holosun before I make my mind up on an optic. Wish I had somewhere close by to go see all of them in person and play around.

In my opinion, aimpoint wins hands down, every time. I've personally never liked the eotech on any rifles that I've shot.

For 200yds and in, you dont need anything fancy. If you're not stuck on aimpoint, I'd give vortex a look. For the money, I've never seen cleaner glass. I have one of their sparc ar optics on my truck gun and love it. Lifetime no questions asked warranty, and currently on sale at palmetto state. https://palmettostatearmory.com/vortex-sparc-ii-ar-2-moa-red-dot-sight-spc-ar2.html

If you're going to spend the money, then it doesnt really get much better than aimpoint.

The Holosun is really the best of both worlds for what you're looking at. It has the large window and reticle of the Eotech, and it has the battery life of the Aimpoint (50k hours).

I've owned an eotech exps 2-0 and a T2. Both were great in their own way, but I'll be buying the Holosun instead!

I've always been a fan of Leupold's scopes. It does far more than an AR, but I had a Votex on my .338 Lapua and it lasted about 10 shots before it knocked the cross hairs all catiwompised.

I would go with the eotech. Im sure you have done your research; from a user perspective I can tell you I have ran aimpoints and eotechs for 20+ yrs; what I prefer about the eotech is the heads up both eyes open ease is allows. The holograph also allow for good reference points in terms of point of aim/ point of impact (MOA reticle options). Aimpoints are more "tube" like and create a little more eye stress for me whereas the open design of eotech does not. With that they are both great optics- my work carbine is outfitted with an aimpoint and many buddies sweat by the micro T.

It all depends on how you plan to use the rifle, battery type & life, weight and what style of RDS or Holo sight you want to look through. I like a large viewing window, and as much as I love the micro - I don't like the view through it as much as I like the others.

My 'front line' ARs have Comp M4 red dots on them, and the Colt back up AR has an EOTech Exps2.
I prefer the reticle and view through the EOTech, but the battery life isn't the best.
AA batteries power the Comp M4, and those batteries are everywhere...

    IMG_7813.jpg

I keep a 2 moa Micro T on my full length battle rifle, and my short battle rifle has a 1.5-5x Leupold.

There is a newer version of that optic. I bought it a few months ago.
    https://www.opticsplanet.com/holosun-hs512c-red-dot-sight.html

Its a great optic. I use gun.deals to find the cheapest option. Then I call optics planet and have them match it us free shipping. I picked mine up for $274

They are great. Shake awake tech, 50,000 hrs of batter auto brightness control. A great value for the price. They are made in CHYNA though.

I have a few Eotechs and love them. For my purposes, recreational and home defense, I wanted something that is easy to acquire targets from 150m. I've played with a buddy's Aimpoint Comp and took me longer to line up the target. With what I want from my applications, I went with Eotech. Not sure your intended application, but you should play around with a few of them before making a decision.

Any particular reason the Trijicon ACOG is not considered? I recently acquired one and am waiting to take it out for a spin.

I’ve had EOTech (both AA and CR2), Holosun, Aimpoint and a number of others...I ended up falling in love with a Trijicon MRO. You can leave it on with tens of thousands of hours of life, or leave it off, and it’s one gloved-hand click away from a perfect setting. Reliable as dirt, great optics, no fogging. Works perfectly with or without a magnifier (one rifle with a flip-up 3x mag, and one without). There were some issues with early MROs, but they’ve been sorted out. I don’t abuse my weapons, but the MRO has been through the ringer, and come out unscathed...and Trijicon’s customer service is beyond comparison.

I love that eotech reticle and the large window is nice for fixed sight guns.Would also take a look at the rifles only carbine sling. A little spendy but you get some good features for the money.

    This.

I’ve had 5 or 6 Eotech’s (still have 2) along with many others.

I’m in the process of swapping out the red dots to the Trijicon MRO. There’s a version 1 and version 2. It’s not a huge deal, I have both - but from serial # 60 something thousand on up is a version 2 that doesn’t have the 1.001 magnification, they are a true 1X.

The Eotech’s are just too heavy and bulky for what they are.
I wouldn’t recommend anything cheaper that’s not contracted to the military.

Vickers Padded sling. Super simple and comfortable. Affordable.

ACOG is a little more than what I’d like to spend at the moment or it would definitely be on the list. One day though. Let me know how you end up liking it compared to the Eotech!

I run Aimpoint patrols and micros and no complaints you can put them threw absolute hell and they still work but mine are all in perfect shape. I just put a sig Romeo on a rifle and it is very nice and the price you cannot beat. I have heard nothing but amazing t try things about halosun products and I’m thinking that might be next to replace the patrol. I love the patrol it’s just to damn big. I love Vickers slings. Do your homework on the eotech stuff they ran threw a bunch of problems a couple years ago and basically gave Aimpoint an open door in that market.

Nice rifle. For slings I would highly recommend the Magpul MS1 or MS2. I had a vickers and it was too cumbersome. The strap to tighten it was always flapping around. I now have MS1s on all my ARs. Blue force gear makes a good sling too. I like basic slings.

As far as optics go, you really can't go wrong with any of the options you are considering. I like the battery life and dot size of Aimpoints personally so my choice would be the T2. Eotech is a great option as well if you prefer the circle dot type of reticle. I have a Sig red dot made by holoson on one of my ARs as well and it has actually been awesome. I got as a from a friend as a temporary thing but I have left it on the gun. It gets banged around and shot often and has held zero just as well as anything else I have. One optic I have wanted to try out is the Leupold LCO. Might be worth looking into.

The Magpul slings are super nice, flexible webbing

Blue Force Gear versions are stiffer and the VTAC is kind of a nice in between for me

I have some of each and the VTAC padded is my favorite

I run an Aimpoint T2 with flip up iron sights. I have an SOE bungee sling. I had an Aimpoint pro prior and switched for the smaller profile of the T2.

I've heard that. I have a larue qd mount on a 1-6 lpvo and a few of their mbt-2s triggers. Larue makes good stuff.
