Well I busted my red clay cherry today.
Every Sunday I take my brother in law Gary (he's special needs and can't get out of the house much) on a ride out in the country. Sometimes we take my truck, sometimes we take "his" car (envoy) took my truck because I thought we'd go down a dirt road or something. We went down a forest service road that was very well maintained the other week, no problem.

So we got out in the country side and we went down a road we never been down before, didn't take long, pavement ended, then a 4 way but gates on two of the roads. OK so left we go. Started out well enough, gravel embedded in red clay, well developed banks. I could tell this was a really old road. Well it started getting more narrow, overgrowth covering the road, washes across the road. Then a mud hole. Wasn't bad so I hit it with a little gas, then another, another, they getting worse, deeper, can't straddle them because the rednecks have been playing in them. Hit another and I could hear the truck bottom out on the skid plates. I heard the tool box bouncing around in the bed, Sliding sideways pulling out of it. I kept thinking I can't turn around and go back through that bad stuff, but it kept getting worse. I'm getting the pucker factor by this time..what the hell have I gotten into!

At one spot the trees were overgrown so bad the windshield was pushing through the limbs, then I was over a little wooden bridge before I knew it was there. I think it was still there when I went over it...

Gary is hollern' "You're gonna get stuck!"
I'm puckerin' worried I am going to get stuck. What the hell is a 55 year old man doing out in the mud hole with street tires!
"Dont' worry Gary, I got the off road package...":mudding::rofl:

I had google maps up on the screen and according to them, there was no road where we were.

The road got bad, really bad, I was pushing limbs out of the way and at one point wasn't sure the road was even there anymore. Got on pass the worse of it and up to another intersection, again, another left. This was in much better shape. They have been logging back in this area so some more mud holes but not nearly as bad as what we left. More mud but wasn't nearly as deep and was easy to straddle. Then I started thinking, what if there's a freakin' gate on the other end of this road...Then we hit pavement again. :yay:

I didn't stop to take any pictures...just didn't seem like the thing to do at the time...but as we headed on home with red clay slingin' all over the road we started LOL..."That enough ridin' for the day Gary?"

I know this doesn't look like the mud bombs you folks get into but it was my first and I am a 2 wheeler so there's that. :poking:

It was pretty caked up in the wheel wells and on the skid plates. Pretty sure the steps were pushin mud at one point, they shoveled a good bit out of the holes.

All cleaned up now and we made note not to go down that road again. But for a bit I did feel like I was 20 something again. :woot:
