Although it won't be what I want I do believe the new tundra will again set the bar just like in 2007. A Prius truck with 400 plus horsepower that gets 30 or more mpg is gonna be hard to beat.

 

@Wallygator yea, they need to make the tundra not so freakin massive like the 2nd and turd gens

 

I like the idea of a hybrid Tundra, but the size is right as it is. There are smaller trucks available of that's what people want. A full size truck, with full size capabilities and good fuel economy would be very nice.

 

That's actually partially why I got into my lease for my 20. I've been waiting for the hybrid option to come down the line, which is presently slated for December 21 (2022 MY). So leasing a 20 now for 3 years gets me to about 1.5-2 yrs into the hybrids if they keep on schedule and get some if any kinks worked out it....then figure out if I wanna jump into a hybrid lease, buy out this one, or lease a 23.....

 

Exactly. I didn't realize how big my 07 Tundra was until I parked it next to my late father's 02 Ford Excursion. The Tundra is the same size but a few inches longer.

 

They also get the same mpgs. The EX is heavier and has a 7.3L engine.

 

But the Tundra would smoke the Excursion.

 

The 7.3L diesel is a great engine and is capable of 20+mpg easily. That’s why those early (pre 6.0L) diesel Excursions with less than 200k miles still go for so much money.

That v10 gasser though was a dog...probably a good bit worse than the tundra 5.7L.

 

If you think the Tundra should be smaller than it currently is go buy a Tacoma.

 

I just wish mine was shorter. It's so damn hard to scrape the windshield.

 

Put sliders on so you have something to stand on.

 

I'm thinking running boards may be required once the kidlet comes along. I'll be looking for advice from this forum when that time comes.

 

You'll get a mountain of opinions to filter through. Just gotta find what works best for you. I like the added protection of the slider from idiots that fling open their doors, but you can get steps for WAY cheaper than sliders.

 

The 7.3L will literally smoke anything.

I would have but the crewcabs I was looking for were more expensive than a DC Tundra.
Toyota trucks since 07 are either too small or too big. There's nothing that's just right.

 

Alternately you could buy the the best generation of Tundra, the 1st Gen.

 

Check out the Ranger then. Roomier than a taco and already has the turbo. I honestly was shopping the Ranger until I priced it out and saw that I could get an F150 for the same price, which then led me to search reliability and wind up with Toyota.

 

I couldn't find one in my area with lower mileage for a reasonable price. They were going for more than 2nd gens with the same miles.

 

I won't buy a Ford unless it came with a Powerstroke 7.3L. Then all headaches of owning a Ford are worth it.

 

I respectfully disagree. In my opinion, the new Tundra needs to remain full size and add about 500 pounds to it's load capacity. Basically a light duty 3/4 ton. There are several smaller trucks to choose from on the market but there isn't a reliable, capable heavy duty truck available. Also, while I'll agree the third generation isn't the same as the first, I do think it's a great truck.

What are sliders? The only thing that comes mind that has one is the rear window.

Kind of, but tougher. You can do this with sliders.

 

I don't think I'd do any rock sliding with my truck. I'm even thinking of ditching my factory running boards.

 

I think this kind of applies to Toyota, too.



But, I am also totally ok with it because reliability is tied with drivability as paramount concerns in a vehicle.

 

To each their own. Mine will likely never be used as full blown sliders, but I like that the whole thing can be used as a jacking point for the truck.

@AzureNightmare na. I didnt want a wimpy tacoma, so i went ahead and bought the best toyota ever made, the 1st generation tundra. Edit: actually, the best light duty pickup ever made with an automatic transmission.
