I was talking to @JAMES on Friday about a complete system and he said Soundshield is the best you can buy and he sells it as well. Not cheap $350 for 4 rolls but triple layered and easy to use.

Does anyone have this product in their truck or experience using it?

Well it has both a closed cell foam and rubber butyl layer combined which is very convenient.

If you were to buy the foam and butyl separately from a quality brand... without doing the math and just guestimating...
4 rolls, 11sq ft per roll...

    It doesn't seem unrealistic imo.

You could find cheaper but there are quality differences in cheaper brands.

I personally, would trust James opinion on the product. If you are like quite a few of us here and like to get as much done in one go and not have to tear everything apart again and again, then that stuff looks like a good option.

Typically you would put a layer of butyl everywhere it's needed. then a layer of the ccf (closed cell foam). Maybe a layer of mlv (mass loaded vinyl)....

The install time adds up fast and sometimes you can't get it all done before you need your vehicle put back together so it's definitely nice to have the option to pay maybe a little more to speed up the process.

Last thing I'd say is, not everyone needs all those materials. Many are happy with just the butyl sound dampener. The ccl and mlv are very effective but not a must have for everyone.

Thank You for the info, what would your suggestion be for a middle of the road product?

A couple of other questions regarding do a step by step change for example just getting amp, dsr1 and sub setup from @JAMES and change the door speakers later. Would that improve sound quality or should I just bite the bullet and do it all.

Second question on door speakers Hertz or JL C1s?

Installed c1s in my doors yesterday. I think the JLs are a little warmer sounding which is my preference.

At 4.5mm it s .177" thick. That s less than 3/16". I m curious how well of a job it does as well.

I have noico and killamat on my truck (I believe they are both the same product, so get whichever is cheaper). Inside and outer skins have been deadened.
    It sounds great.

I’m sure James is steering you strait that it’s good stuff. I bought 2 boxes of 80 mil kilmat and it did all for doors, the back wall, and part of the back seat floor. It definitely made a difference but I can’t say it’s the best because I have never used any other products. Cost me just over $100 and I have a few sheets left. I did the inside of the other skin and also covered the holes in the inside panel for the doors so if you are just doing doors, you can almost get away with 36 sf.

@DCB500 Did you cover the hole in the door with something before applying the sound deadening? I'm wondering if I just use the sound deadening material that it might have the floppies and make noise or not be as effective as it could be.

Im referring to the 2 giant holes that one might use to access the window parts.

Ok....yes if you look at the 2 pics I posted the first one is I lined the inside of the outer door skin first and then I covered the holes that would normally be used to access the inside of the door. But if you use a roller to smooth it out and bond to the metal then there should not be an issue with “the floppies” lol

Raamat is another brand that has been popular on forums.
he gave me a forum discount when i sound deadened my Tacoma. I bought package #1 and it covered my access cab nicely. I dropped the headliner and removed carpet and did full coverage everything.
I recently sound deadened my Tundra and used Killmat with Raamat peel and stick foam. I wanted a less expensive option as i was not planning on going as thorough as i did on my Tacoma.
4 yards of the peel and stick covered all 4 doors, back wall and some of the rear floor.
I would caution applying a ton of butyl mat to the rear doors because it will increase door weight. I targeted large open flat areas only. I applied the peel and stick heavily on the door inner.
Even stock, if you let the door swing open facing downhill you can watch the B-pillar flex when the door hits the open stop.
If you plan on applying to the outer doorskin you can actually apply through the speaker hole without messing with the vapor barrier plastic.
You can't achieve full coverage but placement in the center of flat panels achieves intent without getting to the point of diminishing returns.
I kept the vapor barrier and used it as a base to applied the foam directly over it. It helps with support.

Use a pry tool at EVERY white clip I work for an OEM and have installed/removed plenty of doorliners using the pull /jerk method.
If you use the pull jerk method you will break clip doghouses on the doorliners
Toyota designed the clip doghouses with very little rib support to reduce appearance sink marks on the visible surfaces. The downside is they are fragile.

I agree avoidance is best but for the Neanderthals amongst us you can buy like 10 of them on Amazon for $7.00. I've taken the doors off maybe 10x for various reasons and broken maybe 2 or 3.

I am using Dynamat on my current installation, and I don’t have any prior experience using deadeners.

I did the rear of my CrewMax cab last week and it was very effective. In the literature that came with the Dynamat, it states that 30% coverage is sufficient to achieve a desired result. My understanding of how sound waves and deadening/damping materials work tell me that makes sense, but I don’t have the practical experience, so I am asking- would 30% coverage of the outer- and inner-door skins provide enough damping/deadening for a moderate system install, and reduced road noise?

    Thank you!

The white clips are cheap and replaceable. I am referring to breaking the molded in mounting feature for the clip. The only way to fix the clip mount is plastic weld / epoxy or buy a new doorliner. The correct tool is a trim removal tool. The screwdriver metal flat blade type Not those plastic wedge tools.

The butyl isn't actually a sound deadener. it's a resonance deadener. It stops vibrations that are caused by your speakers and other such things.

It also allows you to seal your door cavity so it can act more as a speaker enclosure.

That said it does help a little with blocking some undesirable out side noise, but that's more of a small bonus.

For those of you thinking of tackling this your first time, be aware that when it rains, water does run down the outside of the window and drips down between the inner and outer door skin. The plastic sheet keeps the water from coming in further. If you choose to rip it out, make sure you completely seal it back up.

I ended up going with Kilmat, 2 boxes of 36 sq ft each for about $125. That should arrive Tuesday

    Awesome link!
I actually was going to link to them in this thread but I saw their notice about closing down. I thought it had to do with the current economical situation. It's good to see someone is carrying their product.

    They have great guides.

That's good stuff and its been around as a brand for a good while.

A good cleaning/drying of the panels is a requirement for the butyl to adhere properly.
And if you do didn't get their specialty roller, you can get plastic/wooden rollers at Walmart/lowes/HD in the wall paper kit's.
