AGM Batteries

I was reading somewhere that its safe to have AGM batteries inside the cab because they are sealed, and don t release gasses. Is this really the case?

 

That's is what they claim and I can't say I've heard of anyone having issues.

I've never personally had one in the cab of a truck but I've had them in the truck of my cars. Not entirely the same but I did keep the seat folded down. I would probably run one in the cab if I had the space...

They have lithium batteries now also. If your looking to supplement an audio system then lithium is the new hot item. Just throwing that out there is all.

 

OP, lithium seems to be the new thing, but do some reading up on them if you go that route. I was looking at Battle Born batteries, but they don’t work well in cold weather. I think lithium doesn’t like anything under freezing.

 

I'd imagine they probably would need some sort of component to regulate and monitor the state of charge and temperature also.

Ehh.. now I'm curious.

 

I believe there a lot of nuances with lithium and charge control and over charging. Also there is no stopping the reaction if they go up. I’ve seen numerous of motorcycles(and EVs) burnt to the ground from batteries.

I run lithium iron batteries in my motorbikes. I can tell you first person that they do not like cold weather. There are ways to accommodate that (you have to "warm them up"). I've only had them in outdoor ~40 degree F weather. Not sure what the process might take if you're trying in, say, sub 32F weather.

 

Ohh.. lithium graphene are right around the corner too!

 

Yep in very cold temps just turn the headlight on for a minute or so while you are getting ready and the batt is warm.

I took out the 60% section of the back seat in my 2007. I live alone so its no big deal. The room it gave me is awesome. I was planning running cable for the other batteries to truck box in bed first. Then to the amps behind seat, but now, assuming agm s are safe in cab, I can mount a battery box in cab right next to amps. It would be less money, and a lot less work.
