My flip phone was malfunctioning so i got a Samsung Galaxy s7
Never used a smartphone before and i am not a tech type of guy.
Im lost with this phone...I have no idea what i am doing. I cant even figure out how to add a contact. Verizon had me set up a google or gmail account...something or other...what is that for?
Tried watching a youtube video on it and could not even figure out how to make the video stop.
Go ahead and make fun of me but i need help guys. Any advice is appreciated. Its just frustrating.

First off don't take it on a plane or put it in your front pocket.. lol
I'm an apple guy. My recommendation is to get an iPhone. They are way more user friendly than droid based OS, which is what your phone has. Not only being biased here, but I've played around with a few droid OS phones and I've had a hard time figuring out settings and basic operation. The iPhone is simple and straight forward.

Since you said "flip phone" I can relate with you a few years back.

Read the manual and try everything out step by step.

Hell I don't even use my iPhone6s at 20% capacity.

The Google account is for everything. Once logged into google, YouTube and many other sites can be used under one login and do direct downloads.

I feel your pain, no crap talking coming from this guy.

Youtube is a great way to learn stuff. Just punch in what it is that you want to do and someone has more than likely made a video. I just switched to iPhone from android, so far its not bad, but there are some features that I've definitely needed some extra instruction.

Exactly what Silver said. I'm actually pretty good with phones and decided one year to switch to Samsung. Didn't last 2 days. That thing was unnecessarily complicated so I went back to Apple. Iphones may take a little learning also, but nothing like Samsung. Plus, I like not having 3rd degree burns next to my crotch.

Verizon used to have a free class for 2 hours and it was almost one to one instruction on the features of the phone and free apss for the phone you might check to see if they still have the class

They should have a "satisfaction guaranteed" type deal that returning that within a certain number of days won't cost you much, if any out of pocket. I also suggest the iPhone. My wife was hell bent against it for years and finally cracked the end of 2016. She was frustrated and annoyed for about a week. Now she loves it and thanks me for suggesting it!

My wife didn't want to go over to the iPhone either. Then I spent 800.00 on hers, and loves it, then lost it, and now has a Samsung S3 and hates it. Lol maybe she can get my old 6s. I'm looking at getting the SE iPhone.

I had a Samsung . . . once. Wanted something different that apple at the time. Was OK, wife hated it because it was a PITA to upload the photos into our Apple computer. Went back to Apple 5. Went camping, was hot, had some beers, jumped into the river. Forgot had my phone in my pocket :( Moved up to 6 plus. Bigger than normal IPhone, but great for browsing tundras.com

You're probably saying WTF does this have to do with helping you use your Samsung. Well, not a damn thing

i have an S7 - it's awesome - it's a hand held computer and can do everything.... with that said, I buy my mom apple products. She wants simple, intuitive technology. That's apple right there. If you want to expand from what apple products can do, android is your thing, if you want a phone that just works intuitively, buy an iphone. Don't waste a ton of money on the iphone 7 or 6... get an iphone SE. Bomb proof reliable at half the cost.

With verizon, you should have a satisfaction guarantee with it that lets you take it back and swap it... i'd solidly recommend swapping the S7 for an iPhone SE... someone else on here will have to explain itunes to you... android doesn't work without a google account... apple doesn't work without an apple ID...

    Anonymity is dead.

I agree, I think most places allow you to exchange/return the phone within 30 days. At the most maybe charge you a restocking fee.
I'm sure the phone was recommended to you by the sales person, I wouldn't take their advice on what phone to get. Like any other sales job they have quotas they have to reach. It's easy to reach that with the iPhone, since it's more popular. So they take advantage of people who don't have a preference or don't know much about phones and sell them Droids!

That's true, SiLV3R. I forgot how hard Verizon was pushing the Droid stuff when I bought my first iPhone at a Verizon Store. I have gone right to the Apple Store since then.

Since you BOUGHT a GS7..let make it work for YOU. Once you got it working, ask your "friends" to put their iPhones (any iPhones) next to your GS7 and show them what AMOLED screen can do. Be careful since they might drool all over your beautiful GS7.

1- You MUST have a gmail account to use any Android phone. Gmail is great, use it.
2- Add your contacts to your gmail so even if you leave Verizon you can still have all of your contacts (saved in Gmail).
3- To add New contact - Bring up the phone dialer, enter the phone number. If it is a NEW number you will see the Add to Contacts button. Touch that button and you will figure it out.
4- Someone just called you and you want to add that number to your contact? Touch the Phone icon (on Main screen), go to RECENT tab, touch the grayed out human face (Left edge of the phone) you will then see the Create Contact button - figure it out from there.
5- At the same level as your RECENT tab, you will see the tabs called Favorites and Contacts. You know what that is.....
6- Messing around to link your phone to your Tundra bluetooth so you can make/receive calls, listening to music....

    Good luck.

While I will admit that an iphone is a little easier to use for non tech savvy people, once you figure out the basics on your Galaxy, you will enjoy the phone. Don't worry about all the comments about your phone burning up, that was specific to the Galaxy Note 7. I went to Android years ago after 2 iphones and I didn't look back. I second.....or third the comments on watching youtube vids to learn what your phone can do. csuviper posted some good ones to start with, you can also ask your friends that have android to show you how to do things. Sometimes it's easier to learn and remember if you see it done first hand.

Thanks for all the help and comments. I liked what i saw with the the droid so thats what i got and im not going thru the hassle of returning it. I really think it will be an awesome phone for me once i get used to it. The guy in the store went over everything quickly but i forgot and just dont have time to mess with it much. Super slammed with work right now and as long as i can make calls i am good. I did watch a couple short videos and it will just take time. Im just old school and dont like change. All that said i am excited about it.
How do you guys carry the huge phone? I got a Otter Box Defender with it. Thinking of trying some cargo pants. Wish Carhartt made their washed duck in a cargo style. Theres gotta be a more comfortable way to carry these than clipped to your belt?
