I’m having issues with my back up camera. I purchased my 2012 rock warrior tundra used (obviously)back in November of 2019. Ever since I got it the rear camera has not worked. That being said, when I put the truck in reverse it seems like the back up camera doesn’t even try to engage. The screen on the dash doesn’t change nor go blank and it is a factory Toyota head unit. Does anyone have any insight on this? Could the camera have been disabled or turned off? I just find it odd that there is no change in display when the truck is put in reverse. Any help or suggestions with this is appreciated!!! Thank you!

My 2010 SR5 oem camera display is in the rear view mirror. Not sure if yours is different.

Mine is in the mirror as well, but i think that was standard for trucks with backup cam, without factory nav (‘10-‘13). When the camera isn’t plugged in, and you shift into reverse, the screen in the mirror turns blue. I would expect the factory head unit to do the same thing, but can’t speak from experience.

Maybe it’s not getting the reverse signal from the shifter?

Might be a silly question, but you have the camera in the tailgate handle, correct? The plug is under the truck next to the spare tire. You could check the connection there.

Yes it is in the tail gate handle . I will check the plug under the truck when I get it back today. It’s currently at Toyota getting tired and alignment.

I actually got under the truck yesterday and found that the plug was undone. I plugged it back up and it began working again.

If your plug is plugged in at the tailgate the other plug is located above the rearview mirror in the ceiling console. If you have the sunglasses drop down you probably need the rear view mirror with the screen. The other type is a screen in the ceiling console right above the rear view mirror closest to the windshield. There are 4 screws to take the console down, two under the sunglasses holder, or screen, and two under the rear lights, if it's a second gen.

Mine is in the ceiling with the sunglasses holder. I used a panel tool to remove the monitor to check the rear plug and everything was fine. So you think the monitor is bad on the truck? Finding the monitor i have is hard especially any information on finding the fix for it.

It could be, I have heard of people swapping out the console screen for the mirror screen from a Sequoia. I ended up installing an after market stereo on my '07. Just tapped into the video up in the console and ran a wire down to the back of the head unit. It was easier, than troubleshooting the screen, though the tap was not easy. There is a forum post on one of the other sites, I will see if I can find it again.

    Also, this might help
Yeah, my wife's Sienna has the JBL, it's a pain, there are a lot of extra peices you have to buy. I went to Crutchfield.com found out all the components and then bought the peices off of Amazon.

Got 2012 tundra the the tailgate camera and the screen in the rear view mirror. The camera stopped working about a year ago. When the truck goes into reverse I get the blue screen for a few seconds and then it goes blank. Every now and then I get a really bad picture on the screen that lasts for a few seconds but it only works randomly. I checked the plug under the truck, and even removed and checked the camera in the tailgate. Not sure if there is a switch connected to the shifter. Would love to get a wiring diagram so I could follow it though from one end to the other. Anyone else have this problem and then get it fixed?
