2020 Ram 1500 vs 2020 Toyota Tundra

So I'm new to this forum so sorry if this is in the incorrect forum. I am looking to purchase a new truck for myself. I currently have it drilled down to either a 2020 Ram 1500 or a 2020 Toyota Tundra. I'm new to the "serious haggling" that comes with buying a new truck so not familiar with alot of terms that is used in this forum (MSRP vs invoice, hold backs, etc). I can say that I'm looking to spend around $40k for my truck. I like both trucks but I'm stlll stuck on which one I should go with. On one had I like the Tundra because of what I call a more aggressive exterior look and obviously the reliability, but I do feel like the Interior is dated. I am looking at the Tundra SRS TSS OR TRD Sport. I'm not saying that they have to be as up to date as the ram but I do like more tech when I'm paying $40k and up. Then I have the Ram 1500 Limited which I like the interior and all the tech it offers(12 in radio, pano roof) but I do understand that it's well below the average as far as reliability. Im not the type to trade in my car every other year so I do plan on keeping this truck for 10+ years. Also I have been advised by multiple truck owners not to buy used because I stay in Arkansas so alot of truck owners use and abuse their trucks then trade them in after a few years. Which truck do you think will give me the best bang for my buck? What tips can you give me to help me make a decision.

Tundra for reliability.

The TSS is just stickers and wheels.

Get the TRD SPORT, color matched bumpers, mirror caps and sway bars all stock.

If you get the TSS your going to add that stuff eventually.

 

If you're keeping the truck 10+ years, definitely the Tundra.

 

That's true.. I didn't think about that. Also since I've read that toyota is maybe releasing a redesign in the next 1-2 years. Do you think I should maybe wait and see how that goes or do you think the redesign tundra will have the same issues and ram and Ford does or anytime you release a new product so it won't have the signature "Toyota Reliability"

 

I agree with all of the above. If you can wait a little longer, from all I’ve read, dealers will be more aggressive!

Personally I wouldn't wait for the redesign. In fact I would hurry up and buy one before the redesign.

 

Long term reliability, Tundra hands down. It’s not even close. The Ram is a really nice truck with IMO class leading interior and tech, but I’d only lease or keep for 5-8 years max, and only even then with an extended warranty. They’re not hideously unreliable like their corporate cousins in Fiat or especially Alfa Romeo, but it’s not for a lack of trying.

 

Outside of the tech, what else draws you to the Ram? And you do know, 99.8% of the people on here are gonna tell you to buy the Tundra, right?

 

Buy the one you want. It’s your money and your life.

 

10 years is a long time for a truck to last if you use it. Tundra all the way. New truck every 5 years, I'd buy ram again. My 2012 ram sport was pretty nice

 

Ram sucks. Get a TRD Sport or TRD Pro.

 

Welcome from Ontario Canada . Why the Limited as it’s the Top of the line , if I was looking between the 2 I’d look at the Laramie , a lot less money and if you go down to the big horn it’s about half the price of the Limited .

There's nothing wrong with going the used route. Go Certified Pre Owned. It will definitely open up your options a little more, as far as getting a TRD Pro with low mileage and the comforts of the CPO warranty. Also, as long as you're still within the 3 year 36k mile warranty, you can purchase an extended warranty for fairly cheap (7-800 dollars for 100k miles).

 

Correct, Tundra way more reliable.

I went from a 18 Ram (redesigned model) to a 19 Tundra.
Why? I drove the Ram for one Wisconsin winter from November 2018 to April 2019 and the following occurred;
-Had about 100's of paint chips on each rocker panel. FCA idiots did not put that plastic film on the 19 Rams. They wanted to repaint it..NOT WHILE I OWN IT!
-The rear parking sensors would lock up the brakes every time I backed out of the garage. FCA was still working on a fix for this known problem.
-The fantastic 12" screen would lock up every 6 or so drives and turn off the music and clear out my pre-sets. Known problem, still working on a fix.

Anyway, the coil spring rear end was fantastic for the ride and the interior feeling was luxurious.

I would buy another Ram (if it was 14k off a 52k MSRP) again but NEVER EVER KEEP IT OFF WARRANTY.

I've had my first Tundra for 20 years now.

I bought my second because I've been hearing about a fuel efficient hybrid since the first spy photos of the '07 redesign hit the web.

In the current virus-economy and work slow down, I don't believe that the 1-2 year timeline for the next release is firm. It could be much longer, and I really like the current truck.

 

Chrysler is trash, bud.

Company stock prices and truck resale values tell the whole story.

Get the Tundra...it's not close.

 

I will never understand why people go to a forum of a specific vehicle and ask this vs that. If I was considering a ram or ford, i would never go to either one of their forums to get an opinion. It would be obviously super biased. It's better to go to a non-biased truck forum to get a true opinion.







With that said, don't be dumb, go with the tundra.

 

If you want to die from watching Netflix on a 47" HD TV screen in your dash get the Ram.

 

If you want too keep 10+ years - tundra is the way to go.

if you want to upgrade trade every 3 years go with RAM.

 

Not to be an ass but that report says there’s 25 complaints on the Tundra .
