Is the pink milkshake an issue on this year of truck?

 

I would second the volume knob thing. I miss mine. I always used to run Kenwoods and they were great, dependable and classy looking if not simple. But the sound shaping on the pioneer was far superior when i replaced my last radio. The Pioneer just sounded so much better with a simple stereo setup than the Kenwood. More EQ customization. If Kenwood has improved on that I would be down for another. Don't have experience with the Sony units.

Yeah, that's a good looking handle. What's the cheaper route you mentioned?

 

Just buy a camera and do it yourself...several people here including myself have done it...it's not much harder than installing a new tailgate handle.

You can put it anywhere you like...I preferred it in the middle...

 

Good point on the volume control knob. Pesky buttons and touchscreens are a nuisance. Only issue with the Sony HU, and this is getting into the weeds a bit, is that the HDMI port is right on the front of the HU. A chord hanging down would look sloppy imo. Not sure how I'd feel about that or if it could be hidden somehow similar to the pics. Other than that, it's got my vote. It's clean looking without being overly techy. Plus it's Sony so I'm sure it's high quality.

Alpine iLX-W650 is another super clean design and larger than the Sony. Real cool feature is the swipe up for volume control. But apparently that doesn't work for Apple Carplay.

 

Touché. Any cameras you recommend? I'd rather spend more for better quality if need be.

 

This is the one I used...I believe @empty_lord and @FirstGenVol used it too. It's solid metal and feels sturdy. The picture is on par with any other backup camera I've used. It had about 3-4 more feet of cable than I needed for my DC If you use this one, just be sure to use ALL of the included mounting angles to get the view from your camera to clear the handle itself.

While I almost chose that one, I decided on the

$110 Pioneer NDBC8 Pioneer ND-BC8 NTSC Universal Camera, Mirror-Image - Rearview Camera - Backup Camera

Pioneer NDBC8 but similar to the Natika, it was easy to install in center of handle. I do like the custom handle you linked to above and am hoping to run across one that fits from our Raceway pik-a-part someday.

 

If you are getting into the tailgate latch, you may as well spend the 5 bucks and pick up a couple of Tailgate Latch Rod Clips.

 

Good idea. If there are any other small things an older truck like mine should take care of, let me know! I'm starting to run out of money for this thing, but the smaller details are important too imo

 

Does anybody know what this part is called? Top of the truck bed lining is missing one (out of 4) and haven't been able to find it online.

I was missing some too. Got them for a few bucks at the dealer. Part number is: 66257-0C010

For some reason, Toyota's description on them is Plate, RR Body Protector, RH (they worked on both sides of the truck no problem)

 

Yup, I think these are right. Though it does say it's for the rear.

Yeah. I believe they worked fine for both spots. I know I have one in the front RH cover position and it seemed to work fine. I bought two packs from my dealer. I think they had to order them.

Love to hear it! From everything I've heard, it's been a great buy. Will keep it stock like you mentioned - only thing I'm currently adding is the head unit. But it's very simple looking.

 

Hi everyone! This thread really helps...Just put $ down on a 2000 Access Cab 4.7L 4WD. No rust, leaks, engine looks and sounds like new. Suspension, steering and transmission tight as a drum. Comes with a great camper shell. I was a little leery of the milage, 222,000. Checked underneath, no rust or leaks anywhere. Timing belt was inspected and deemed new. $8500. Pretty excited.

 

Welcome to the Tundy (people call it that?) community. I own a Ducati moto as well and have tried posting on their forums about it... nothing but crickets. This forum has been a huge help and that alone gives a good window into how good these trucks are.

 

$8500 seems a little steep. I own a 2000 AC Limited 4wd and the insurance company totaled it for a value of $5200. Prior to the deer damage on the drivers side doors and bed it was rather immaculate. I kept the truck (and the deer damage) and cashed that check. Couldn't believe some dents in the lower part of the doors and the front lower part of the bed would exceed $4-5k. When looking around for comparables, most were in the $6200-7500 range. I negotiated a little more money out of the insurance. I bought this truck out in Manteca, California in 2005 for $16k with 99,000 miles on it.

Got this guy in the mail today and after checking it out, I have no idea how to install it. Any advice? Youtube didn't seem that helpful but I'm open to other options

 

Working on the aftermarket head unit now. The wiring provided is, for the most part, lined up. I chose wiring harness TY-A for the CS-TJ20 Crux over the TY-B because it has the OE camera connector and the wires coming out of the back of the Sony HU have 13 wires and matches TY-A on numbers alone. Please advise if I'm wrong here!

That said, the colors definitely do not match 100% and some of the wires on the TY-A don't seem to have anywhere to go on the Sony harness. The Sony harness has 15 wires to connect to and the Crux TY-A harness only has 13 wires to give. Also, the TY-A (and TY-B for that matter), both have Amp turn-on and antenna turn on, which is nowhere to be found on the Sony wiring. The TY-A harness does not have rear L & R speaker wires either. What's going on there?

 

Just take the handle out, per this video, drill a hole in it and mount it with the hardware provided...use ALL the angle mounts to have the picture clear the handle.

Check with PAC...tell them the radio you have and they will tell you the best harness and what goes to where on the HU. They answered my questions with my non-typical Android HU. Not all wires are used from either end in my case, but everything works great.
