    Update on my Kubota L2501.

95 hours as of this morning. Almost time for the second 50 hr maintenance service. By the time June comes around for the 1 year ownership, I’m sure it will be around 115 hours. I do follow the maintenance schedule and warm up procedures. In the cold weather, Kubota recommends a 30 minute warm up on the HST tractors. I just fire it up, go back inside and make a pot of coffee. By the time my first cup is gone, the tractor has properly warmed up for use.

People ask if I’m happy with the L2501 25 hp tractor. Yes and no. Would I like the 33/39/47 hp L series tractors...hell yeah. Do I want to pay the extra thousands for something not needed more than 5% of the time...no.

    Mods and implements:

The tractor has no modifications yet. I would like to install some rear wheel spacers and maybe look into a ballast box. Even with 700 lbs in the rear tires, a bucket full of rocks can get sporty, even at slow speeds with my off camber property.

Lights. I don’t run the tractor much at night, but when I do, it reminds me that some more lighting is necessary. I won’t hard mount lights to the ROPS since on my research, tractor dealerships cannot sell tractors with modified ROPS. The owner takes a pretty good hit on resale. Do I think two 1/8” holes would cause structural issues? No. I’m sure someone sued the living shit out of someone, sometime for having a modified ROPS. For now, looking for powerful magnetic lights for the ROPS and maybe the loader.

Rear 7’ blade. This has been a great implement purchase. I have been able to flatten out some areas on the property. In some spots, 3’ of soil has been removed and used in other places. Right now, I use it more for counter weight, snow removal, and trailer moving (welded on a ball mount).

Brush hog- works as advertised. Mowed a couple others properties. I may just stick to my own. People think I’m Forrest Gump, have a gazillion dollars, and will cut those fields for free. Some have rented tractors and found out it’s not as easy or cheap. Fine by me.

Front loader- this is my favorite. So many uses.

Tire pressures. I have been adjusting these as necessary. The rear tires I have dropped to 22-24 psi vs the 30 psi max. I really don’t have much rear implement weight, so this has helped significantly with ride and traction with the R4 tires.

This is some of the pictures from this year:

Day I picked the tractor up. First day I realized I needed a bigger trailer than 16’. That has now been resolved.

This is one of the few projects we have going on. This will be mound landscaping with a water feature. Mainly for snow drifting. In the bad storms with wind, I have had snow half way up my front door. That sucks.
    8116FBA5-D89B-4164-95B7-8EA2DDC0E304.jpg

Hauling boulders. I have made probably 10 runs up to Denver and back with people not wanting the boulders in their landscape design. Free works for me, since I now have around 30k lbs of free boulders. I couldn’t imagine what that would have cost to buy and have delivered.

For some reason, my brother always finds things he wants in Denver, but lives in MT. This is a fire resistant filing cabinet that weighs in at 603 lbs. Works great for loading and unloading.

This is the start of my back yard access road. To access the back yard, I was at the point of almost installing a pintle hitch due to how much the truck and trailer would flex. Empty this wasn’t a huge issue unless it had rained or snowed....which is a lot of the weather out here. With any kind of weight, it was dangerous.

I found a construction site in town that had a lot of good compaction fill dirt for free. For three days I just ran back and fourth running loads of dirt. Each load of fill dirt was ~8500 lbs plus the 3000 lbs of trailer. This put me in the 11-11500 range. By some napkin math, I moved 100k lbs of dirt to my back yard. Cost me 3/4 tank of fuel in the truck and 1 tank in the Kubota (36 gallons total)

    AEBCDBB8-3BD5-4C43-866D-F85E31E4E42E.jpg

Starting the pile of dirt. I did get to the point of removing the ramps off the trailer since I had a “loading dock” platform of dirt.

    EBA349A5-8BDD-4E36-B661-DA0D68E3FA14.jpg

This is the rough cut in of the road. I used all the dirt I brought in, and plus some from the back I had stored up.

I plan on bringing in some large boulders to make a retaining wall for more of a natural look and feel. We will have to rent some equipment for that work since most of those rocks will be 3-4K lbs each.

I tried out the access road this past Saturday with the new 20’ trailer. So far, this has been great.

Damn. Big boy tractor right there!!

From what I have researched on the web, some owners over wash their tractors and cause damage. Mainly to engine bays, but also to pivot/hinge points and wash out grease.

There are some pretty good YouTube channels out there:

Messicks and Tractor Mike are some of my favorite. Very informative and has directed me on how to care for my specific tractor.

@ColoradoTJ Another easy way to put no-drill lights on your ROPS bar is to build straps to go around the tube, lined with rubber. One fwd facing light on one side, and a rear facing light on the other side.

Another fine idea Phil. Thank you. :hattip:

I could incorporate the wire harness brackets as well.

That is the Landpride SGC1060. There are so many options out there. I'm a Landpride fan, and I needed root rake style, however, I can still grab 3 to 4 10-12 inch logs at a time.

Nice work Chris! You’ve been busy! Don’t forget to check around locally for free fill dirt delivered (if you still need more). I stopped by housing developments when they were cutting crawl spaces, took down all of the trucking company names and called their dispatch. I knew they were going 10-20 miles past me to drop their dirt, and told them I’d save them a lot of time, and money. It worked out great.

Mowing the neighbors, yep, I wouldn’t make it a normal practice from experience lol.

Are you ever going to install a roof? If so (which I’d highly recommend), you can mount an LED bar to the rear, and then a few LED pods to the bars in the front. That’s exactly what I did. Bare-Co seemed to be the best value. Something like this:
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kubota-Kio...5-W-X-60-L-Polyethylene-BARE-CO-/142847696307

And boy, get those rear tires out as far as you can. I’ve blown a front tire bead on a side hill with a load in the bucket. Talk about shitting your pants. A lot of my property is off camber as well, which doesn’t go well with tractors. My rear tires are filled too. I’ve almost rolled it 3 or 4 times. To the point where the side starts to come up, and I have to slam the bucket down and gas out.

I have been a bit busy. You should see all the boulders I have now.
Looking around we need to find a large boulder supplier for the wall.

The local companies around here will give fill dirt, but want you to pay delivery. The local place I was getting all the fill dirt got all butthurt about me taking one large bucket load at a time. Guess they were looking for tandem axle trucks to take the loads.

I would like to get a roof. How stable are they? Think it could handle very high winds (70-90 mph)?

I know the feeling when the rear tire comes off the ground. Full hydraulic dump time. Lol.

I felt the same way about my L2501, so I traded it for a L3901. It was a great decisions and I wish I would have just gotten the L3901 from the start.

I like it so much that I got a second L3901 with a backhoe, just because.

Then I picked up a LX3310 with a grapple and rear remote valve to operate my dump trailer.

Still have my BX2380 as well, and a Kubota zero turn.

My barn looks like a fookin Kubota dealership.

said goodbye to my jd 2305 / snowblower Saturday. Bittersweet as the tractor was awesome. Snowblower, not so much. And as I’ve said in other threads it was wicked cold and slow for my roughly 1000’ driveway.
Having someone plow for me this season. Will likely put a blade on my tundra next year (thanks Covid) and look for a different daily.

    *edit*
Also, for anyone interested- I took a long one in the wrong one in terms of a $$ hit

After debating my options for the last few weeks I just pulled the trigger on a Kubota L2501. Should be ready next week. I think it is going to be great for my needs and my property.

    I have a 2015 Kubota B2650 TLB.
Have 225hrs on it, never had an issue, thing is easy as shit to work on, and the perfect size to squeeze into spots but big enough to do work. I maintain my 2 acres and built a garage and renovated my house with the help of it. Its handy af to have for moving lumber, firewood, digging holes, grading, etc etc BAEE03F0-0B42-4D09-8D6A-901FB05FC1EC.jpg

Good choice. You can't go wrong with Kubota IMO. I have L2850 with a loader I got new in 1990 or 91 (too long ago). It has been used and abused since the day it was bought and still runs and works perfect.

You'll like it for a little while, but as soon as you realize how underpowered it is, you'll be trading it in. Kubota specifically designed it for that exact reason.

The L2501 is just bait to get you to buy another tractor. Almost nobody keeps their L2501. It's a brilliant scheme.

It's kinda nice, but I should have just gotten another L3901, or even a L3301.

The LX3310 has serious ergonomic issues for American males. All the controls just get in the way of each other. It's a tractor for smaller people, but it's funny how my BX2380 doesn't have those issues. Just not designed well in the ergonomic category.

The digital gauges also suck, analog are just better on a tractor.

All right. 150 hours on the L2501. Been a good machine and moved a shitload of rock and earth. I could have went with the 33/3901, but content with the 2501 purchase.

I was debating going up to the L3301 but I didn’t want to deal with the regen stuff. I only have 5 acres so it should work for my needs. At least for the next few years

Does 8hp really make that much of a difference to justify going up to the 3301?

Weight and HP in increments make a huge difference in how the tractor performs.

Just got my L2501 delivered. I am pretty excited to start putting it to work.
