Anyone put a light bar behind their 19+ grille?

Looking at lighting options on my 2020. Do I go lower bumper or behind the grille? Give me some opinions!

 

NSV Bar is super sweet from what I have seen.

 

Yeah I’ve seen them. I was looking more for a bigger bar. Seems like that NSV is fairly small for the price...?

 

Yeah they are expensive but look sweet in the bulge. I'm hoping they do a group buy again to get a better price. Cool you got a 2020. Have a new to me '18 and really dig having a Toyota again after a Ford experiment.

 

Yeah just got the 2020 after trading in my ‘19 Limited. I looked at the Fords but just couldn’t do it. My FIL has worked on Toyotas for 40 years, so I always had him in my ear. Tundras are great trucks, enjoys yours!

 

The NSV lightbar is sick - but unfortunately the switch housing isn't compatible with the 2020s. They said they have one in development - but as of right now, no NSV Lightbar if you have a 2020.

 

With the ample amount of LED lights on the new PRO's, I personally would spend that money elsewhere. My truck is a 19 with full LED front lights and it throws out a ridiculous amount of bright white light. But, if you want more, go for it bro.

 

If you want "light" in the front of your truck for visibility the NSV light bar will not get you there. I have seen the pics of the spot it projects in front and it is nothing to compared to the big boys like Baja Designs and Rigid

 

Yeah that’s exactly my thought. If going light bar in the front, I’m going LIGHT BAR in the front!

 

With a non trd pro grill you can fit any size baja designs s8 or onx6 behind the grill, with the onx6 you will need to notch out the radiator support bracket to make it fit- easy though.

I had a 30in onx6 behind mine until my bumper showed up. I have an S8 40 in the hood bulge- FAR better use of your money for actual lighting vs the NSV- had one and sold it- very subpar light output for the price (your paying for the clean fit and nightrider effect).

Owning 2 S8's now, I miss my onx6. It was the highpower model they used to make and blew away the s8's, so i'd say go with the onx6!

PS get Amber, i converted all my lights to amber except my headlights and its far superior to white light in just about every circumstance.

 

I installed the Diode Dynamics 42" white combo light bar ( https://www.diodedynamics.com/2014-2019-toyota-tundra-stealth-led-light-bar-bracket-kit.html ) and it does the job. Definitely lights up the desert night. I had six Rigid D2s on my last '08 Tundra and this is comparable but a much cleaner look.

 

That came out really good!

 

Happier with your Pro vs. the Limited?

 

Definitely yes. Isn’t even close. Especially when you factor in the 2020 goodies

 

You have a diy or know of a diy for this? S8 in hood Bulge?

 

@Caliraisedled duel light bars on their duel light bar mount and @Caliraisedled ditch lights on victory 4x4 ditch light brackets. It looks like a NASA launch at night with all three on.

 

To do it right buy the @sdhq_offroad brackets, or you could follow their directions and cut your hood opening slot, play with washers and longer bolts to center it, and call it a day. FYI- if you take the hood bulge off more than 2-3 times it will pop off during high speeds/ winds without using a bolt like sdhq provides, so if you do the diy route pay a lot of attention. Other option is to use a smaller lightbar (I had a cheapo lightbar in that slot on my 2014, wouldn’t go back to it to save my life over the @Baja Designs) and follow the same steps without having to cut out your hood. Then trim the plastic grill to cover the non light bar filled portions of the bulge

just an FYI...
Before you drill any holes make sure the light (BD S8 I am talking about) is located where you want it in the position of front to back of the vehicle. If you mount too close the the front of the hood it WILL interfere with the hood bulge. The template for the holes to be drilled do not provide a reference point to anything just the shape of the hood. You can move that template around a lot and see the tolerances are great. Once installed correctly you will love it!
