Recently got a black 2015 Tundra. Sits outside. I’ve found many spots fixed with touch up paint

    Bought a meguiars complete kit
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Meguiar-s-Complete-Car-Care-Kit-Essential-Detailing-Kit-G19900/51575291
    Bought the clay bar kit
Want to buy the M21 sealant
    Got this polisher
    BLACK+DECKER 6-inch Random Orbit Waxer/Polisher (WP900) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000077CPT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ABHJEbBKK3JC6

what wax should I get for post sealant? The wax in the kit is a cleaner wax and my limited detailing logic thinks that a cleaner wax isn’t needed after sealing

just want to protect it outside and have it sheet rain etc off as it shows everything.

And when should I use the meguiars scratch x 2.0 to remove minor scratches?

new to all this as I’ve always just gone through the auto wash and never done more than a hand wash with a pressure washer and auto soap

After you iron x and clay, wash everything again and dry. Then you would do any paint correction with your polisher. After you finish the correction, wipe down with an IPA, then you would seal and protect. When I first started, was recommended Carpro Hydro2 sealant and P&S Beadmaker. Both work very well together. I'm about ready to do the same thing to my truck soon as the weather is starting to get nicer

I was going of the stickied post which indicated the following steps

    Dawn Wash with microfiber mit
    Dry with microfiber towel
    Clay
    Automotive wash
    Dry again
    Sealant
    Wipe off
    Seal again
    Wax

    what is iron x?
Do I use the polisher to apply the sealant and wax?

Iron X is a paint decontamination chemical. It does what clay does - removes contamination from the paint. It doesn’t do it as well as clay, but using it beforehand makes claying much easier. Iron X gets the lighter stuff out, and clay gets the deeper contamination. You can just do clay, it’ll just be more difficult and take more time.
I recommend a clay mitt instead of traditional clay. It’s reusable, faster, and easier.

Nanoskin AUTOSCRUB Fine Grade Wash Mitt [AS-016] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DOS0LH2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_EVWJEbEARKXGY

As for sealant, I’ve never used the M21, so I can’t speak to how good it is. Like @Bust said, CarPro Hydro2 and P&S Beadmaker is a great combo, especially on black. These are both sealants. You won’t need wax if using these.

Keep in mind that wax looks great, but is short lived. You’ll have to reapply every few weeks. Sealants last much longer, but don’t look as good as wax does. That said, sealants like those mentioned above, Carpro Reload, Jescar Powerlock, etc do look really good. Just not quite as good as traditional wax.

Beadmaker kind of bridges the gap between sealant and wax. Doesn’t last as long as other sealants, which is why I recommend the bottom coat of Hydro2, but the finish is closer to what you’d get from a wax.

If you do want to go the wax route, my favorites are both from Shine Supply. Signature Shine looks better, and Cherry Silica wax lasts longer. Waxaddict also has some amazing waxes, but they are expensive and take a while to get from the UK.

As for whether or not to use the polisher to apply them, that’s up to you. Most sealants are sprays, so you can’t do them with the polisher. Jescar Powerlock is the only sealant I use that could be done with a polisher. For wax, it does make it easier and faster. Just get a waxing pad for your machine. I use the Griots red ones for that.

I’ve already bought the clay bars so I’ll have to use those.

I was doing more reading on the Meguiars line and actually think I want to try the Ultimate liquid wax. Sealant properties with a wax look.
But I appreciate all the info! If I don’t like the Meg’s ultimate I’ll check out the carpro hydro and bead maker!

Meg's Ultimate Liquid Wax is quite nice. Top it with their Deep Crystal Caranuba wax and it's money. I've had ULW on my truck for about three months now and it's still beading great. Completed this Jeep yesterday with ULW topped with DC Carnauba.

Congratulations and condolences for going down the rabbit hole. The stuff you bought should get you off to a good start. The Cleaner Wax used to be all I used on our vehicles....with very good results. It will remove slight scratches and swirls, and leave a layer of protection.....to me, it's the original AIO (all in one). The polisher you bought will be very effective to apply and remove waxes and sealants, but you will face an uphill battle doing legitimate correction with it. The Meguiars Car Wash that comes in the kit is their entry level...its not the best, but it will serve you fine. If you decide on Meguiars Ultimate Wax as your sealant, you will be very happy with the results. My only issue with it is that it doesn't give you very good depth of color on darker vehicles...at least that was my experience. I topped it with a quality carnuba paste wax ( Pinnacle Sovereign Signature Series II), and saw an improvement. You will find ULW to be very durable and easy to work with. In my opinion, do not bother with Dawn. I've not seen any evidence that it breaks down any existing protection. Your clay step will take care of that for you.

As a suggestion for a carnuba topper, check your local stores for Collinite 845. You combine that with ULW, and you'll have a sweet looking ride with a very durable one-two punch of protection. Good luck...post pics of your results

Gotcha. I'll have to pick up spme Meguiars Carnuba then.

what should I avoid with polish/ULW/CW? I have partial chrome bumpers, chrome tundra and SR5 badges, and part of my grill has what seems to be a powder coat finish. I know the ULW will dry clear on the plastic pieces (I'll still avoid).

I'd avoid anything other than painted surfaces with the polish......even though it didn't turn my plastic trim white, I'd still take the time to mask it off. Mask the same off before applying the carnuba product. I know people like to stay with a product line, but is there a reason why you want to use a Meguiars carnuba product?

To stick with the meguiars line and it’s half the price of the Collinite 845. Any reason to not use the meguiars?

So avoid anything that’s not black paint with the polish. Does this apply to the sealant and wax?

None at all. They make quality products. I actually just picked up some of the ULW. It was half price at the grocery store. I also got a bottle of this:

idk if i would bother with polish with that orbital. thats pretty much a wax machine, you'll be wasting yout time polishing with it.

as for meguiars, they make good stuff. i like their M105 and M205 for polishing. other than that I have found other brands that wax, wash, seal, last long, correct, clean, etc. better than meg's for the same price or less. no doubt its good stuff but there is better in the same price range, most of it is also easier to use.

ha thanks! I’ve used it for years on various things but I’m sure 99% of people have no idea what it means. He’s my favorite SW character.

so those two “waxes” both function as sealants correct?

even with some griots pads for polishing?

I have all the megs products already other than a finishing wax so I’ll see how they do and go from there when I need to buy more product.

I really appreciate all the input from everyone as this is the first time I’ve ever attempted any of this and it’s a bit intimidating with all the different products and processes.

Yeah, surprised me when I noticed. Pretty obscure character. I actually used Jagged Fel for a long time back in the day.

As for your question, I’ll give you the vague answer of “probably”. It’s gotten pretty blurred over time, and I haven’t actually used either one or researched them. I know the spray version of their ceramic wax is pretty solid. Meguair’s is also known to call a sealant “wax”, just because most consumers don’t know what a sealant is.

yeah. unfortunately that machine just isn't a polisher, you need a dual action (DA) to get any correction done. That thing will make the truck look good from 10 feet but i don't think it'll remove swirls or scratches. if you are serious about getting into this stuff then get a good DA now and save yourself headaches and a lot time

No reason to avoid the Meguiars line....was just curious. Sealants typically do not turn black plastic white, but the carnuba will. Masking off takes a little time, but I've found it to be a worthwhile exercise

I use alot of Meg's items....especially their Ultimate line and have been very pleased with it. I'm garage kept when home, but work in the industrial area, so I get alot of fallout from flares burning through air and off roads. The paint is protected pretty well and I only have to apply a wax every year. I do clay bar at the same time. I also use their newer product the Hybrid Ceramic Wax Spray and have been pleased with it.

What’s the story on the ceramic sprays? I see this F11 stuff all over the web. Is it just a newer version of wax that’s easier to use?

I used F11 Topcoat for a long time. It's a great product, in my opinion. Nowadays I don't use it on paint anymore, but still use it on lights and all trim. Makes it look new and is ultra hydrophobic.

    :lalala:F11:lalala:

"Ceramic" sprays are silica based top coats. Most are pretty damn good. Yes they replace wax, are easier to use, last longer....most brands anyway. F11 is junk. Check out meguiars, carpro, griots, mckees, even turtkewax is was better than F11

I have the megs quick wax spray. I think I’m gonna try that on the ULW cause it’s getting out of hand with all the products lol. From there I may try the ceramic spray.

Their quick wax is just what it says...and I'll say that it appears to give the paint an extra pop in the color. I like to do it if I've given it a wash and all, then if I'm going out the next day and it's a sunny day, I'll take about 5-10 minutes to go over it and it makes it shine pretty bright!
I do. Said he tried it for a while on his white corvette and said he just wasn't impressed with it. It did what it said, but said definitely not worth it and was finishing off what he had then not going to use it again.:notsure:

Wayyyyy overpriced and overhyped. Something recommended to be used after every wash doesn't sit well with me as far as a LSP layer, sounds like more of a spray detailer. Independent tests have shown it to wear off within days to weeks of application and after washing your car. I want something that lasts months.
I've never met anyone who has used that AND something from a reputable company who says its not junk.
