What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

So I thought I recall people saying the lower ball joints are a weak point on these trucks. Well wanting to be proactive and not have any issues, Id like to get these replaced. Looking around it seems like OEM is best. Any one have any info on OEM or Moog I believe is another popular one. Sorry if this has already been addressed before.

Also, is Toyotapartsdeal, the site everyone recommends for looking up OEM parts. And then the dealer Toyota site to double check the parts and see the schematics? I looked up the parts and filtered all my info about the truck and it shows 2 options for the same part still. Not sure how to decide which is the actual correct part to purchase. Thanks guys!

 

I just posted about wanting to replace my lower ball joints. Then you sent the snapshot of the torque specs. 221 ft/lb torque is alot. Whats the best way for me to achieve that? My only torque wrench I own tops out at 90 ft/lb. Is there another wrench you guys would recommend to get me higher torque amounts? Thanks

 

woah woah those little bolts do not take 221 ft lbs. that torque is for the newer tundras that use 2 MASSIVE bolts

 

factory spec is 59 ft lbs for the 4 ball joint bolts if i remember right

 

@oscardog86 you really want to stick with OEM ball joints. 221 ft lbs seems like a lot but someone should come along to let us know if it's right. If it is, I would just buy a new torque wrench. Lowe's and Home Depot typically have a good selection.

 

@oscardog86 that sheet isnt for first gens, not sure why it is in here. @NMR@ider76 I hope you aren't following that torque schedule on a first gen.

As far as lower ball joints, everybody will recommend real Toyota. If you're on a budget then Moog will do. Don't forget to get a new nut for the ball joint and 4 new bolts for where it mounts to the control arm.

You probably see two part numbers because 00-04 use the older design, 05 and 06 use a newer design, they are not interchangeable.

so by all logical reasoning THIS IS BEST GEN!

 

removed t taps from the first 2 wires and added my constant 12v for the mirror power. homelink will now work properly
accessory power is from the red wire added that runs to behind the instrument cluster (would of been the pin used if the truck had auto dimming from the factory) and the ground and constant power are spliced in from the dome light ciruit with cut, and but splices with heatshrink over them. nice and clean, just like the factory (just in different locations)

 

tomorrow i will probably pull all the plastic off the roof and remove the stock deadener (its seperating from the roof) and install my deadener to kill more noise. and i may order some ensolite foam to put up there too (14/" or 1/8" thick)

 

That wiring job looks clean! How difficult was dropping the liner?

Things are cold here (to me), and pops and I are working on house projects. 3 days in on one bathroom at the moment. I'll get back to it in my truck once the house is done.

 

I was digging around on Amazon the other day and noticed that Noico also makes a heat/deadener for roofs. You feel like being the guinea pig?

That is 2 years ago. My bad I apologize for the mess up on my part.

I drive 100-ish miles round trip to work daily. At least Monday through Friday... or I did.

 

The corolla is anywhere from 62k to 73k a year depending on how much I also drive it and my fathers schedule.

 

Do you have a long commute to work?

 

Yeah, like...a state or two one-way?

 

He drives it at least 150 miles a day.

 

He works in west Chicago Illinois, we live south of Gary Indiana.

7 days a week and most of the year.

I also drive it on long commutes because 40mpg

 

Got the front breathers up into the arb breather. I’ll worry about the rear eventually. Probably just t into the front breather line. And I have a 1/8” manifold for all the electric motor breathers to go to a 5/16 hose to the web breather as well. Probably get that done at work one day

 

That sounds miserable for him. Why not move? He practically lives on that car. My new job is 40 miles away so we're selling our house and moving. No way I'm driving 80 miles a day.

 

Doesn't sound bad. That's what my old commute was before I got a house.

 

Because the house he lives in currently costs 1/4th what it would in Illinois. Taxes are ridiculous out there.




Plus all of our NFA toys are illegal in Illinois. Won’t ever give those up

 

Got (2) Pelican 1520 cases for the roof rack. Installed (1) before I realized that I didn't have enough bolts. Not sure what happened but when I ordered the extrusion I got a lot more nuts than bolts. But for a quick pic, I set everything up the way it will be laid out to see what I thought. The cases are definitely a bit taller than what I thought compared to the items next to it but needed some depth to put stuff in there!

 

After giving the tundra a quick detail I ended up having to clean the wives car too. I cursed her and her stupid shoes for all these scuffs. Took forever to claybar them mostly away. The weird thing is, her car feels like a tub that you climb into so it’s only 98% her fault and 2% the cars lol.

 

No pics, but I just replaced my leaf springs. Went with the HD 4/1 set up. I debated back and forth between these and the regular ones. So glad I went with the HD, I was worried about them being to rough on the road, but they aren't at all. I had a 3 leaf AAL and was at 23 1/2 hub to fender, now 22 3/4, so lost a little lift.

 

I live about 40 miles outside Minneapolis, so 40-50 miles each way commute is normal, and well worth it to not live in the hell-hole.
