The Dyno on page one is from 93 octane. From 87 stock to 93 tuned, it was a big difference.

i have an 18 non flex fuel and I do not have those either yet. I was told on here that the 18’s are on hold here until the features are made. I have been in a holding pattern for a very long time waiting for this.

As far as the software to download it does not get pushed through E-mail (a link would be the best customer service since there is a shit load of data to dig through to find, a lot of changes through the process) so you have to dig around to find the right one.

If you download flash manager, the logger is part of the installation.

Thats not what he asked about. He wanted to know what the gain would be between 87 TUNED and 93 TUNED

    minimal

It's ok, I often give information based on what I know rather than what's asked. Doesn't make it any less valid.

Besides, if you think those two comparisons are minimal, the difference between 87 stock and 87 tuned are very minimal! Besides drivability. So with that rational, my answer isn't far from accurate. :D like what I did there?

    Anyway, carry on!

@OVTune hey Mat, if we could get our hands on one of the handheld tuners, would we be able to load our finished tune along with an 87 octane and the adjusted tunes with your new software? Maybe a way to make it easier to switch between tunes on the road, rather than having a laptop with us. How many tunes will that handheld hold?

you can get laptops for like $150 that are small and easy to keep in the truck. I think I paid $200 for mine

I've got a giant laptop that's about 8 years old. The inverter in my truck won't keep it running. Yeah if I could find one that cheap, that would be nice

Is that what year it is? Thanks for the research

Dude, I grew up before the majority of people had computers, definitely not cell phones and antilock brakes meant pumping the shit out of the pedal! Lol, so 2000, 2020, 2030 im doing good just owning this smart phone and following the directions to flash my ECU!

But I probably will buy the laptop you linked above. Sometimes a guy just needs a little help!

Half the info you find on a forum is from reading various posts, so I may have replied to you, but the information is for anyone reading.

87 octane hasn't been dyno'd, so the only comparison you will get other than apples and oranges are butt Dyno feelings, like the one Alex gave you.

At the risk of specifically giving you "more" information than you have asked for, you could always request an 87 and 93 octane tune and try them out for yourself.

That is what I wanted 87 and 91 (no 93 here) but I have only had the 91 where changes are made but I have not completed my tune yet

personally I'm not worried about getting a revised 87 tune. Base 87 tune is fine. I would only be using it if I couldnt find premium gas for some reason

Yes, I believe it's only compatible with the 2018s (for now).

Unfortunately I can't get the handhelds, the company relied on a supplier in asia, which got affected by the coronavirus, and the actual company is in italy, which got affect by the coronavirus even worse. They don't even respond anymore.

currently only compatible with 18s. but nobody has it yet.

Regarding feature support. Features are done on some ECUs and being worked on, on others. the Very old ECUs ( 07,08, 09 as of right now) I am having difficulty finding the code that controls the upshift and downshift.
Now lets not get confused please.
    1. Updates for everyone was on hold while we work on this, except supercharged trucks. It was not year specific, there is no special wait for 18s, etc.
    2. I send the updated, patched files to people as I build them. However I understand people have been waiting a while, and want updates even without certain features, so I am doing that now too. (updating).
    3. vF Tuner allows you to access the maps and tune your own truck if you wish. You do NOT have to have it. It is optional. Currently it only supports 2018s, and in a few weeks will support 2019 ECUs (no ecu swap or removal).
    4. vF Tuner will come with example tunes, which you can use and or edit on your own. It does not come with custom tuning from us, the point of the software is for you to make your own custom tune.
    5. I am not selling flash kits anymore, or doing tunes any more (for new customers). Current customers will still get their tunes done as they purchased.

As far as who currently has *all* features in their trucks, anyone with a CM51 flex fuel does, and a few other ECUs.

Is this for the time being, or for good? I already have your tune for my 18, but was wondering for others that we might speak to about how we like the tune, and whether or not they should invest into it as well.

had some updates I was planning to send last weekend but did not even realize it was easter, so I will be sending some of those updates to you guys today

    This change is permanent.
vF Tuner will come with example tunes, so you won't start from scratch.

Sorry to hear it. Does it have anything to do with people bitching and moaning here on the thread?

    Just wondering...

Guess I'll just sit with the basic tune. I'm happy with it. I have no desire to play around with it.

Combination of the pandemic and not being able to get the hardware from the hardest hit countries, and this was the plan to begin with and the timeline is just being accelerated.

Hi Mat. This may not be priority, but can you talk to us/me about ethanol levels? It changes slightly, but has been steadily sitting at 20.78%. I have a 93 octane tune. N/A.

Is this right, or is it something that needs to be looked at? Thanks

not at all. You guys have been wonderful to work with honestly.
Right. A combination of hardware delays, hardware issues, and we have been working on this software for over 2 years.
Combine that with our hands being plenty full of work already, patching, updates, etc.. I don't want to over extend myself. There is tons of work I need to finish and things I need to work on, and I would rather not get so buried in customers that everything falls apart. When I came into tuning the Tacoma and Tundra... I didn't realize just how big the communities are. And in order to ensure I can provide the best I can with my limited resources, I decided to make this change rather than overextend my capability custom tuning individual trucks.

The ethanol % is calculated, not a true reading. It takes into account your fuel trims and such. it will always change whenever you put gas in the tank. Unless you have an issue specifically I would not pay too much attention to it. it will vary anywhere from 0% to 10% up to 40%, because the ECU doesn't actually know how much ethanol is really there.

if you get an issue where you are seeing consistently 50%+ then there is a problem and it needs looked at.

Also if you have not had the TSB done from toyota that fixes high ethanol calculation problems that should be done.

You probably don't need to worry about the readings unless you start to have starting issues. I memory serves, this would manifest in long crank times and flooding-like symptoms at cold start up due to the truck thinking it needs to use more fuel than necessary based on a perceived high ethanol percentage in the tank.
