Building custom rear seat delete

I am going to build my own rear seat delete deck with drawers for my 18 tundra. I’ll post pictures as it progresses. I’d like to keep the subs but they’ll need to be “covered” so they aren’t damaged. They may come out depending.



Got the designs and measurements completed. Got the materials and hardware. Finished the base and it started raining. Done for the day. I’ll pick back up this weekend.



Got some more work done today. Once everything is complete I’ll take it apart, spray it with a “bed liner” spray paint and do the final assembly.



Got it completely assembled. This is not the bin that’s going in the drawers, just for reference. All pieces have been painted. Going to give a day or 2 to dry and then I’ll assemble the final product. Still need to find a bin that I like that will fit. Preferably ones that can be segmented.




Finished up today. I just need to figure out what storage bins I’m going to use. My baby girl Fiona likes it. Total cost of project was around $250. I’m satisfied.



Installed the bins in the drawers and locks so the drawers don’t slide out while driving.

Interesting and different. What are you going to use the drawers for?

 

I use my truck for work so the bed of the truck is full of equipment and I keep my tools inside the truck in toolboxes but I also have 3 dogs and any time we go somewhere with them I have to remove everything from the back seat area (which has rarely ever been used as seats for people). So this way I’ll have a place for my tools in the drawers and also a place for the dogs without having to switch back and forth constantly. Also just to make it easier to get tools by just opening the truck and pulling out a drawer instead of going into a toolbox.

I bought my truck before the job and before the dogs. Never really even had a NEED for a truck, much less a van. But I like the Tundra and I enjoy doing this type of stuff. Besides, I can always put the seats back...

 

Copy that. You should be able to fit some good size boxes in the huge area. Not sure what tools you have, but can't wait to see your finished product. Should have plenty of room.

Edit: side note. Did you build your sub box as well?

 

I did not. It’s from ********* and is made to fit and be held in place behind the rear seats.

Been waiting for goose gear to make a deleted seat for the third gen like they did the second gen. I'm going to follow with interest in doing something similar. I can count on one hand how many times the back seat is used for people. I too have 3 dogs that use the cab in bad weather. This would give them plenty of room.

 

I was also hoping for something from goose gear but it hasn't happened and with nothing to do nowadays I can just do it myself and save some money. Hopefully it turns out ok!

 

I am sure it will. I want to see how you do it, then modify from there for my needs, as I am sure they are slightly different.

Ive considered the same or redesigning the seat brackets so the floor is flat and has more room to slide tools in and out. I would like to put a locking tool box in mine and have the top tall enough for dogs to see out the windows

 

Great idea for more functional space. On a side note , you've created a 4th order bandpass enclosure for your subs.

What did you paint it with?

I finished mine a few weeks ago. Mostly a sleeping platform for the pup, and have the kiddo so only 40% delete for me.
Did storage up front underneath
