    Hello all,

I tried installing a 2 inch level myself today and got jammed up at the end because the strut assembly didn’t line up when I tried putting it back on the truck. I needed a spring compressor to realign the shock so the hole fits in the bottom and I didn't have that tool. It was like a quarter turn away from the right position. Instruction manual made no mention of that.

So everything had to go back in and it was a waste of time. Not to mention that I needed a wheel alignment lol. Oh well. I failed but I’m glad I tried. I decided to do it myself because I called a few shops and each shop said $500 just for instal. I rather die than pay that just for install.

Anyway, while I was doing all that, I noticed a long wire not connected to anything and hanging loose on the passenger side by the firewall. This wire was a few feet long and I was tucked away but not tied to anything. I used a zip tie and tied it up clean in the corner. I was wondering what that wire was if anyone knows ? I’ll take a picture today as I’m curious to know.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This is the mentioned wire. I tied it up because it was hanging loosely and you can see it by the wheel well dangling. It’s about a meter long.

Forgive me for not clarifying. This picture is under the hood on the passenger side and next to the air filter. But I will take another pic.

Looks like a ground wire to some aftermarket add-on. What add-on's have you done to the truck?

Okay here we go. Here are two more pics. One is of engine bay and the second is where the wire was dangling by the grey hose on the left.

I have no ads ons. Everything was stock from dealer.

I don’t think that’s a factory wire. If you follow it, where’s it go?

Bud I was puzzled myself. I ordered this truck new. I’m the only owner. I have had no issues and this rig is solid. I was just curious more than anything. So I figured I ask.

The whole time I was like wtf is this wire and why is there.

Thanks for advice. I will do that.

Could it maybe be for an option my truck Does not have ?

In the meanwhile, if anyone has free time to kill, take a look under your hood on passenger side and see if you have a similar wire. This one is an SR5 2020.

    Thanks

Looks aftermarket. Sometimes dealers install 3rd party alarm systems that they try to get the buyer to pay for during the sale.

Yellow and green, definitely a ground wire. To what, can't answer that one.

You said it's about a meter long. I assume you're in Canada. It may be for a block heater, battery tender, or remote start. Can you trace its origin?

That's the ground wire to your block heater. If you look close there is a grounding bolt that's located just behind your air box. The wire connects there with the existing ground wires. The Toyota block heaters are installed at the dealership during the PDI and the tech forgot to attach the wire. You could go back to the dealer and have them attach it for free or do it yourself.

Actually in one of your photos you can see the grounding bolt. There's two of them and we use the rear one because it's easier to get to.

Just curious if it's the remote start? 2020 models come with remote start now. So this wouldnt be on anyone's older truck.

You can usually put a metal rod or similar tool into the lower bolt hole on the coilover assembly and twist it into the correct orientation. I’ve had to do this 2 times I’ve installed them on my truck. Not a full quarter turn, but same concept.

I have a block heater. I don’t have remote start or a battery tender. Dealers are closed now and appointments. When all this mess is done, I’ll go in person and check.

Thanks for this explanation. I appreciate it.

I never use block heater and I don’t even know why I bought it.

Is there any harm if I left it where it is now zip tied ? So long as I don’t use the block heater

Did your truck come with remote connect? Hit the lock button slowly 3 times. If it starts you do. Screenshot_20200410-122852_Drive.jpg

I just did as your picture showed. I can’t believe the answer was right in front of me this whole time.

Boy you weren’t kidding about using the back bolt as it’s easier. My hands are bear paws and it was a bitch to get in there and it was freezing weather.

    Thanks again

I've done quite a few of these so that wire is very familiar. I didn't see you location but quessing western Canada? The block heater is put in during the PDI and when you buy your truck you have no choice, it's billed out in the purchase price. Sucks for some because it's about $400 bucks.

I’m in Ontario. That’s exactly what happened. Sales man kept telling me about the block heater cost. Something I don’t care about or ever used. I didn’t want to make a fuss. And went with it.

Southern Ontario? I thought they were only installing the heaters in northern Ont. It just doesn't get cold enough in the GTA to need the heater. It's possible it was a dealer trade from a northern location.

I ordered it new and picked it up at North Bay. I had to drive a few hours cause they were willing to deal. In my town, they don’t give two shits and don’t budge on price.

That explains it. North Bay is considered northern.
