A little more will get you a griot's. They are quieter, less vibration, and lifetime warranty. Can't beat that.

It may not be the best, i mean there are some unreal DAs out there. But its a great value and by far the best starter polisher you can get. And you can use it forever, it's more than a starter unit really. It comes outfitted with 6" backing plate, but many switch to 5" its a small investment up front but pays off because of the cost of 5 inch pads vs 6. And the 5 inch seems to be a better all around size. The GG6 is also great and some are still out there but the G9 is only slightly more expensive

What’s a good source for the 5” pads? Should I get a kit? I see Griots only sells them individually. Thanks for all your help btw...

Just get the polisher by itself, with no pads or products if you can.
Get a lake country 5" backing plate, or a griot's if they sell them. I like lake country. I also like LC pads, for basic jobs you can get away with a few orange and a few black foam pads, the lake country HDO are my favorite foam pads. You may need some yellow for heavier cutting and red for waxing and sealing, depending on your needs. But you will need a lot of pads for a tundra. At least 5 orange and 5 black.
You can also try buff and shine urofiber pads. I like them alot and they are kind of an all in one cut/polish pad.
Also get a pad brush, they are cheap and worth it.

Check out detailedimage, autogeek, and autopia, they always have sales.

detailedimage.com is a great site to order from for car cleaning supplies, that's where I've ordered all of my CG stuff, I might try the Carpro line next.

I got some of the Chemical Guys Hydro Slick a couple weeks ago. IDK if I got a bad batch or what. The stuff was terrible to get off the paint. I emailed them and the only thing I have heard back is by them putting me on their advertising emails. Normally I have had really good luck with them. I just thought they were shut down because of COVID.

@Pudge covered it well. As expected. You don’t need a crazy top of the line DA and the g9 is all you need. I order from detailed image all the time I also order from griots direct. I don’t like ordering high end products froM Amazon to many counterfeit products out there. I love CarPro eraser reload and pearl for the interior. Black fire products are also tip-top but you get what you pay for with the exception of some. I would join all the above company’s news letter/email services they are always having deals and coupons. I think detailed image is %20 off right now.

I have never tried CarPro wax so I can’t speak on the quality of that. @Pudge @War Machine im sure can. I’ve used the ceramic quartz 3.0 and I love it. My 2cents

I used hydroslick last night on the truck. You have to put a thin layer, and remove within a few minutes of sitting on the paint. I even used it on the windows with great results. I found if you put to much on or leave it too long it does take some effort to remove.

I put mine on with a DA as thin as I could get it. Still was like trying to take oil off of my paint with a greasy rag. I will admit, it beads up like crazy now.

So....some love and some hate for Chemical Guys. Folks bash them for their hype, and the fact that they sell way too many variations of the same type of product. Most people, myself included, start looking around on Youtube and Chemical Guys videos are all over it. Like any retailer, they sell some good stuff and some not so good stuff. Through trial and error, you find some products that simply perform better. For example, the CG line of compounds, and their VSS and V4 are not very good. Their soaps, on the other hand, are good and are economical if bought by the gallon, which most are. Diablo wheel cleaner is an average wheel cleaner....I've found Sonax to be much, much better.....actually worth the price difference. Jet Seal is good, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant is better. Petes 53 is an underrated carnuba paste wax, if you're someone who likes using paste waxes. I'm not. Silk Shine is a very good interior dressing, although a little shiny for my taste. I keep it because I have people who like that look. 303 Aerospace protectant is a lot less sheen, and I keep it on hand for the very same reason.

For an entry level DA, you can not beat the Griots Garage G9. Plenty of power, versatility and a lifetime warranty. Couple that with their BOSS line of pads and you have a killer combo capable of tackling almost any situation. The BOSS pads can be bought from Autogeek in combo packs at a significant savings.
