Toyota Console Safe

I ordered the Toyota Console Safe from Sparks Toyota and is set to be delivered tomorrow. The directions says you have to remove the rear paneling of the console where the ac vents are. Then remove the lid to install.

However, I watched a video where Tundradude34 installed it and was able to get it past the lid without taking anything apart.

Anybody installed and know what you really have to do?

No, it can be unlocked by a key or a 3-digit combo you can set.

 

I installed mine without removing anything. Just go slow and take your time it will go in.

 

That is what I figured. Being delivered to work so I will take my 10mm socket and install at lunch.

 

Dont do what he did, you will scratch the sh!t out of the under side of your lid and also bend it back further than its supposed to go. I initially tried installing mine without removing the lid and stopped seeing why the instructions tell you to remove it. It's really not hard at all to remove, and is much easier to install.

I have a Lock'er Down Console Safe in my 2014 DC.
I've had it in and out several times, never took the cover off to do it.



And a big plus for the Lock'er Down, electronic keypad that I can put the combo in and turn the knob without looking..



I wonder what the magnets are for????????????



BUT, as @Joe333x stated, removing the lid isn't that hard.
It also might make it easier..
This video will show you how to remove the lid (I used to to install my wireless charger).
First 6 minutes show you how to remove the lid.
It is under spring tension so get all the screws started when you put it back in before tightening..

I didn't remove the lid when I installed mine but I did have to remove the front and rear 'lip' that was holding the organizer up. Easy to remove but it did require drilling out a few rivets.

 

I'm not sure how our two safes differ, as far as design but I did not have to remove anything other than the fabric insert that hides the bolts on the bottom.

 

How do you guys like the full-size lock boxes? I got the half size because I didn't want to have to unlock it every time I needed something (like cough drops or a pen). I like having a locked section for important stuff, but I find I'm constantly moving stuff in and out as I cannot decide what to keep in the box.

 

That was my issue when deciding which size. I settled on the lockerdown safe based of the reviews, and they only had one size(at least at the time) I'm glad it's full size due to the issue you mentioned, there is enough clearance to keep pens, cough drops ect on top on the safe and still have plenty of room to close.

The 2nd and 3rd gen consoles are different.

 

I got the safe installed today in about 10 minutes. Went right in with no scratches and bolts lined up perfectly. All in all very happy. Didn't realize how much crap I had at the bottom of the console.

Now I am looking for a good gun magnet or some kind of mounting device for the P365.

Awesome! That looks like a nice piece. You attach magnets to it or does the mount screw into the safe?

 

I bolted the daraholster mount in the safe before dropping it in. I have a spare magazine held by a magnetic mount.

 

I put the one at Sparks in my 18 Platinum, removed it, and put in my 20 Pro. The only scratch I got was on one of the console lid hinges. Fortunate for me, the wireless charger metal bracket (hiding the power wire) covered the scratch up. I would give a little advice - have someone sit in the back of the cab to "hold" the console lid - they can help with opening and closing the safe when install (I found it easier to avoid contact with the lid/hinges if the console lid slowly closes behind the safe as it is dropped into the console hole).

 

Hey Scott, I actually got it installed today by myself. I guess I was lucky as mine went in really easy and did not scratch anything. I was very careful with the hinges in sliding it past. I like it so far! Seems to be built really well and feel safe having a firearm in it.
