I purchased XD wheels (same size as the stock TRD wheels) for my new Tundra. Had them mount the original Michelin tires on it. I now have shuddering at speeds above 60. Discount Tire (where I bought the wheels) took a look -- they had used the wrong nuts and the balance was a little off. They used the correct nuts and rebalanced but still shuddering. Any thoughts? Thanks!

If the only change was the wheels, it has to be there somewhere. Do any of the wheels have a lot of weights on it like the wheel itself isn’t very balanced? Maybe take it back again. I’ve heard go things about discount tires customer service.

Yes there was a least one wheel that had 7-8 weights on it. They said one of the wheels was 1 ounce off and another was I want to say 15 ounces off.

are they hub centric? I’ve had issues with methods that were lug centric before, can be tough to balance sometimes especially if the shop doesn’t use the lug centric adaptor. Wonder if anyone makes the adaptor rings for the tundra to make them hub centric. Also did they check the runout on the wheels? Could be a fucked up tire too.

Not sure if they are hub versus leg centric. That info isn't readily available on the discount tire website. Thanks for this beta though -- it will help me speak their vernacular when I take it back tomorrow. From what you say, hub centric wheels are more worry free than lug centric.

Which XD wheel model did you purchase? I may be able to assist to see if hub rings are needed.

Take it back and tell them to road force balance. Have them inspect each lug and ensure that it wasn't bent or otherwise damaged when the had the wrong lugnuts installed.

I doubt the problem is that they aren't hub-centric wheels. If the lugnuts were installed in the proper sequence to the proper torque specs this shouldn't be a problem. Your truck has a 110.5mm hub.

I wouldn’t necessarily say “more worry free” but as a general rule most hub centric wheels that are balanced have a better shot of not having vibrations, just because they’re centered off the hubs rather than the lugs. I agree with the guy above, it’s likely not your issue, but it’s something to be aware of. I’d have them check the run out, check the tires, and road force balance and see if it solves the issue.
