I was watching a video By Tundra Dude 34 about the remote start app for 2020 Tundras and the driving score it gives you along with all kinds of data about your driving habits.
He was a bit exciting and not in a good way about Toyota grading your driving skills and sharing them in some cases and at a minimum if you opt out of everything but remote start Toyota still tracks your driving habits.
He actually called the number listed in the app and the only way to stop them from tracking and grading your driving ( fast starts, stops hard cornering etc... ) is to cancel the remote start app completely.
I agree with his thought process in that you want the convenience of the app yet to keep it you are allowing Toyota to log your every move that may or may not be used as a deciding factor in let’s say a drive train issue down the road.

I did a search so if this has been covered just close or delete the thread if not what’s you guys thoughts on it.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
That's kinda the same thing (Big Brother) with all phone apps, which is why I avoid them like the 'pick your virus'...just use the fob but remember the engine turns off when the door is opened or unlocked by the fob, nice feature....

What’s disturbing the most is the Toyota app actually grades your driving on every trip and will turn them over to insurance companies if you allow them.
Bottom line who the heck designs the algorithm that grades my driving. Safe driving for me could be unsafe for someone else so it’s very subjective.

Most newer vehicles will retain driving info and can upload to industry when they request it without you knowing

Watch his 10 minute rant You tube video and then come back. It’s freaky to get a driving score that indicates how many corners you have taken too fast, accelerating too fast , braking too hard

Hate to break it to you but all newer vehicles record this type of info as we drive them. Doesn’t have to be an app for someone that really matters to get this info. Also it is not just Toyota. Do you think Toyota puts this in their vehicles out of the goodness of their hearts? It is required by the fed government to sell vehicles in the US. All the auto mfg’s have it. If the manufacturer, the police, or some attorney/court want this info and is justified they’re going to get it.

I know all all vehicles have a black box but that’s only accessed under the same circumstances that would allow them to draw your blood and test it in the event of an accident . You have a 2020 so you know what I am talking about. I am totally okay with the black boxes but not in an app that “grades” my driving and sends it to insurance companies and keeps it to analyze your driving habits to .... possibly deny a warranty claim if their app said you drove aggressively. Just Saying!

I guess Toyota could send this info to my insurance company but I highly doubt they will be spending the money to get that done. When we take our vehicles in for warranty work all they have to do is plug their computer in to your vehicle to get these records. The police would need reasonable suspicion/probably cause (after a wreck most likely) or a court order.

I watched his video, and even if you turn off the drivers score, it still says that it’s going to send the info to Toyota. So turning it off just means that you can’t see it anymore, Toyota is still collecting it...
