    Another vote for RCI, I just installed them last week and they were easy to install and appear to provide much better coverage than stock.

    Not meant to hijack, but I am looking at a 2017 Tundra 1794 Edition 4X4. Test drove it last week and I checked for the cam tower leak, but forgot to look underneath to see if that year/model came with skid plates (it doesn't have the TRD upgrade package). Can anyone confirm one way or the other if skid plates came standard?

    My father has the same year/model truck as you, it does come with the basic factory skid plate all the other Tundras get.
    Also my fathers is at 75k miles and zero leaks so far, hope yours stays the same!

    Trd upgrade package doesn't include the pro skid plate. Only the TRD pros come with that. Everyone else gets the flimsy POS one that makes changing the oil a PITA

    Regular POS Tundra skid plate requires you to remove it fully to change the oil filter/drain oil

    TRD skid plate and like RCI skid plates have a little door you can open to change oil filter/drain without removing entire skid.

    Yes. 5 screws and then you have to push it up and over to get the hooks undone. Not the biggest deal but taking 4 Allen bolts out on the access door on the TRD pro skid is just so much easier.

    So is that pretty much what everyone does - switch out the OEM skid plate for the TRD skid plate to reduce oil change difficulty?

    I looked that sucker up and it's $400 and change for a piece of aluminum with an access door and fancy lettering. I really prefer aluminum over metal, so I guess I will be looking for other skid plate options in the near future

    Lots of options; Victory 4x4 and RCI Offroad come to mind, and I am sure there are others. Most upgrade from stock for better protection, and the filter door is an added bonus.

    I actually ended up going with the TRD Pro as well. I was going to paint it black because I thought it was stark white (truck is black) but it’s actually like a gray/ silver color. Installing tomorrow so I’ll post some pics of how it looks on a black truck. Btw, thank you to all who contributed to the tread! Great group of helpful people!:bowdown::hattip:
