Hey there guys and girls and Tundra owners of all ages.

Recently we've all seen on social medias the common polls. I figured I'd start one here for unpopular opinions on the Tundra. It can be about anything stock or aftermarket parts. I'll start

    1. AJT designs trim replacement: I don't understand the hype
    2. Lightbars of any sort: Ok i can see the use off road or overland but not on DD
    3. Floor gear shift: I always preferred column mount.
    4. Extremely wide tires with crazy offset and barely any sidewall: Just why?
    5. MGM is faster than white or black: I said it

Lets all keep in mind these are opinions so no bashing others. Also please refrain from OCI and auto manufacturer arguments :hattip:

I could never shift gears with a column shifter lol besides didn't most of the transmissions with column shift only have 3 speeds?
    For sure!

My work vehicle and my DD Sequoia are both column shift. Occasionally I'll get into my Tundra and almost rip off the window wiper lever. That being said I do prefer the console shifter, it feels higher end
These are ridiculous but all over my home town.

The column shifter is much slower to use than a floor or console shifter. Even with an automatic transmission I tend to shift manually (sequentially) a lot. For people who put the vehicle in gear when they drive away and let the computer do all of the shifting then the column shifter is fine and the advantage is that you don't have the shifter and console taking up space where a third person could sit.

A graded dirt road isn't offroading.

If you don't understand why you need a light bar, you have never needed a light bar. For me, auxiliary lighting is a necessity on forestry roads after dark to light wide (vs far).

As for light bars themselves, they are popular because you get a large amount of output in one package and you can generally purchase them cheap.

MGM is faster than black or white. It is the only colour which can get near the awesomeness of cement.

The AJT stuff eliminates chrome. Chrome is for grandpas and the tasteless few who accessorize from the Auto Zone discount flyer. :poking:

I've got lots of unpopular opinions.

1: The Toyota fabrication market (4runner, Tundra, Tacoma) is artificially overpriced, largely by the tremendous amount of dedicated fanboy support these vehicles have. Don't believe me? Go shopping for bumpers for a 2019 Jeep Rubicon. Then compare similar products for a Tundra, Tacoma, or 4runner.

2: Elvis actually DID die on a toilet eating a peanut butter sammich, loaded up on pills.

3: Canada should build a border wall to keep Americans out.

4: Voodoo blue looks like smurf skeet. It's just.. gross. ;)

5: White Tundras are the slowest - not because they're mechanically incapable of being driven just as fast, but because only grampas buy them.

    Agreed....Nothing faster than Voodoo Blue.

AJT stuff just makes it look better....not there for use.

Big lifts with offroad tires and 22in wheels is ridiculous. The biggest wheel you should have it 20in. If you are truly taking it off the pavement you need more tires.

    1. I like the Al key fob case they make, will get one in near future.
    2. I need lights for outdoor activities in the back woods.
    3. No preference, but I do like the extra space on floor.
    4. Prefer practical application for reliability/durability.
    5. Blue streak ftw!

I don't get the point of that hideous look... Yes, i know; to each their own but i just laugh when they do that. I see them and think, oh look, another pavement princess.... Here in North Texas, several of the trucks with that wheel/tire setup are 2WD..

I absolutely agree. Some of these parts are simply ridiculous. $1000 for sliders? $200 for a bed mount?

However as a counterpoint, look at a bumper like an ARB. Regardless of what you think of the look it is engineered for and crash tested on a Tundra. They worked the crumple zones, crush rates, airbag deployment and actually run crash barrier tests to prove their product.

As someone who has owned an ARB in the past and have seen first hand how the design pushed a deer down and to the side with only a cracked signal lens, I am willing to pay a fair premium for that type of engineering.

I agree with you - ARB is actually a good example of a great bumper that is reasonably priced. For a 5th gen 4runner, as an example, it's around $1500.

I'm referring to the front bumpers that are built by these social-media savvy manufacturers and sold for $3500 - $5000. I won't call out any manufacturers specifically, but they are out there and people are buying their parts.

Trucks with fender flares running stock width tires. You need some rubber to fill the extra wheel well created with the flares. Otherwise the truck looks like an old woman hiking up her skirt.

I drove both versions before buying my 2007... the console / floor shift looks speed racer cool, but I found the column shifter was more practical and easier to run up & down the gears manually. A column shifter also frees up cabin space in the Tundra, making it easier to move things around.
