Garmin InReach Mini

Anyone know if you can use the GPS functionality without the subscription. I found the Explorer will allow you to, but nothing on the Mini. I am going to suspend my account and test, but wanted to see if anyone knew. I will update the thread with what I find.

Keep us updated. I have a mini and have wondered as well. I want to say that you can't, but not 100% sure.

 

The Garmin Explore app blows. Better to use a dedicated mapping app like Gaia, OnX, Avenza etc that can download offline maps. You don't need cell service to get accurate GPS coordinates.

 

I use OnX for hunting, and recently got an inreach mini. Mainly for texting when I'm out of service area so that my wife knows I'm okay. I downloaded the Garmin/earthmate app. not too bad.

 

This. I use my InReach only on remote hiking trip to let people know Im ok. For navigation, Gaia app.

 

I pretty much stick with OnX for mapping. I only have my inreach mini for communicating when I'm in locations with no reception. It also provides my wife with a map of where I've been and where I'm at, when I have no reception.

The offline maps on Onx are great for hunting. Pretty much all I use.
