Anyone else experiencing this? I first noticed it last October when driving through Arches National Park. I wasn't on the brakes either (they were cold). Now it happens when the rotors are cold and I'm pulling out of my garage.

Build up of dust perhaps? I drive to work 1.25 miles one way.

My 2017 does the same thing. I know it is not worn out pads since all pads were replaced about a year ago by prior owner (at dealer). Just was wondering what makes it do all the squealing.

Mine rear left ones do this as well. Just first thing when pulling out of the driveway/garage.

Sounds like brake hardware needs to be cleaned and greased.

Pull it all off, hose it all down with brake parts cleaner, reassemble. The brake pad goop that comes with new pads...I spread some of that on the backside of the pads (part that touches calipers)

Make sure you put the brake grease on the pins as well as on the ears that the pads slide on.

Kinda scared to take the brakes off. I’ve worked on my truck before. Replaced leafs springs, rear shocks, and shackles. Do I have to remove the pads from the caliper?

Yeah my truck has 9,500 miles and it screams when backing out of my driveway. Pisses me off to no end and I don't want to rip the brakes apart. Too much damne work.

It's pretty easy actually. All you have to do is take the wheel off, and then the pads slide out of the caliper after removing the retaining hardware.

Drive the truck down the road and slam on the brakes hard to get rid surface dust or contaminants on the rotors. Could just also be changes in the materials due to the cold temperature.

I would use the brake grease on the backs of the pads and lube the slides . It’s a little work but if it bothers you bad enough it well worth your time . You can buy the silicone brake grease it doesn’t take much I’ve had the same 4-3 oz tube for years !

So are we talking a one-time backing out of driveway squeal or all day long?

If the former, its just some rust building up on rotor overnight in humid areas.

If the latter and "pads can't possible be worn out yet", then check dust shield and blow out dust or hose it down, don't need to take it all apart, that's over doing it, its just dust, hose it off....

My truck has done this since I brought it home brand new and by the time I hit the first stop sign in my neighborhood, the noise is normally gone after that. But I do agree with everyone’s posts about it being annoying. I just learned to deal with it and not let it bother me too much.

This has been going on from almost new. In October during our drive through Arches, there was a continuous squeal and I thought one of the wheel bearings was going out. Truck had 9k miles on it then. I applied the brakes and it went away only to come back moments later. I slammed on the brakes and it went away a little longer only to come back. I applied just the parking brake and it went away giving me the notion that it was only the rear brakes. The squealing happened on an uphill, downhill, and flat road. I figured it was some sort of brake dust build up or something. That type of constant squealing went away later on that trip. I took it to the dealer for service and mentioned this issue to them. They couldn't rectify the annoying problem. Ever since then it squeals pulling out of my garage after sitting all night or sometimes when I'm crawling in a parking lot.

This happened to my 07 Avalon and it turned out that the type of pads Toyota used from the factory didn't mate well with the rotor surfaces. Dealer couldn't figure it out but a forum user over at Toyotanation.com did. That solved my problem on that car. I will pull the rear wheels off and blow out what ever dust may be in there. I will also use suggestions listed above. If that doesn't work, I will replace the pads with different material pads.

    Thanks for all the replies....

What are your pads made with? I bought some Powerstops off Rockauto.com that are carbon fiber + ceramic. I don't have much brake dust and zero noises.

I've found that much depends on braking style too. Some people wait until the last minute to apply brakes which means they have to hit em harder to stop. I usually slow down way ahead of a stop then I don't have to hit them hard to completely stop. Saves brakes and much easier on your ride in general imo.

Whatever Toyota put in there from the factory. I brake like you. I drive this truck like I'm driving Ms Daisy. Remember, I'm the guy with the Power Commander on ECO mode. haha
