Anyone have any experience with getting mice out of a vehicle? I opened up my truck this afternoon and found a roll of paper towels chewed to pieces on both the drivers and passenger side floor. Truck is my daily so it's not like it sits for long periods. I pulled everything out of the cab and set a couple traps but not sure what else I can do. I am terrified they might start chewing wires and cause some major issues. I keep my interior clean, beside maybe some few crumbs under the seat there's no food inside. I'm not sure how a mouse could even of gotten in the cab.

I think there are a few threads here where people have had the same problem. Check your cabin filter as that seems like a common point of entry.

Sounds like you have a lazy cat problem.
Mothballs or dryer sheets in the engine bay I’ve heard.

Mice go where there is food or shelter or both. They don't like some odors like my grandma's 'moth balls'. That's what I've used along with making very certain not 1 crumb of food is available.

Thanks I will check that in the morning. I just changed the filter a couple weeks ago .

Yeah peanut butter is always my go to, last much longer and makes them work to get it off.

Set the traps near the front tires. They seem to like to crawl up there and either get into the air filter box through the fender, or under your windshield cowl and into the AC filter area which makes the biggest and smelliest mess. I added this wire mesh right after i bought my truck, having had the same problems on my last Sierra...Good luck.IMG_0491.jpg

This is a common issue in many areas of the country. A long time ago I first became aware of this issue while working at a Honda dealership in upstate NY. We started seeing a rash of accords with HVAC issues. We found that chipmunks were getting into the interiors using the fresh air intake opening under the wiper cowl. They would pack the under dash heat ducts with pine nuts until they were blocked. After taking the dash apart and emptying the ducts, we started using 1/4" mechanics cloth to make a screen to block the fresh air intakes. Problem solved. Fast forward to my '03 4runner. I found a nest on top of the cabin air filter, so I did the screen fix on the fresh air intake, and never saw any further mice issues. If you live in an area with a lot of mice or chipmunks, and park outside, you may need to do this.

Put peppermint oil (5 to 10 drops)on the cabin filter.

While I agree that the Peppermint Oil is a great deterrent, blocking their point of entrance to the cabin is the better long range solution.

Ill have to give this a try. The traps inside the truck have not produced results yet.

I had mice getting in my 08 through the cabin air filter and fixed it. Pop off the plastic cowling and under it on the passanger side is the opening for air flow. Get yourself some coarse screen with small enough openings that a mouse can't get through, 1/4" at the most. I then attached that over the opening using sheet metal screws, some type of glue could work I suppose. Never had another mouse get in. Good luck.

If you look through the cowling on the p side with a flashlight you'll see the opening I'm talking about. From what I remember it's an inch or so wide and around 8" long, give or take.
