What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

That does sound interesting. How often are you playing with them side mirrors? How are you learning all this at work? My job requires me to clean the molds that join the current Tundra, Tacoma door seals. There are a few other models we have here but I can't think of any.

I wish I could get heated mirrors for winter times. It's just a thought at this point with no googling behind it. Lol

 

I like the bottom one, but only because I think it has more "flow" with our interior. Well, with the first first gen interior anyways.

 

My tundra was prewired for heater mirrors, yours may be too.
The mirror switch came to mind just because I noticed it when I was replacing something so I delve into the wiring schematics and saw it’s just an extra wire

 

I added the left side audio controls to my wheel a while back and cut the airbag cover to make it fit around them. I’ve been (not exactly diligently) searching for the phone controls on the right side but can never find them or even a part number. I know the LX and GX had them but didn’t know about the 4 runner.

Speaking of, I saw a YouTube video recently where the guy was showing off all of his white interior lights and his swc were lit up. I know I only ran 3 wires to my clock spring from my radio to get the audio controls to work but I never ran anything for illumination. So that got me thinking about doing it but I dug through every Tundra wiring diagram I could find and never saw an illumination wire.

Point being, if you, or anyone for that matter, has audio controls that light up and wouldn’t mind snapping a few pictures of the clock spring, I’m sure I could talk BMF into drawing a nice corner of fame picture for you.

I just got a Pioneer 2300NEX double din head unit and a backup camera. Does anyone know if I need a wiring harness to get this thing installed?

Still gotta finish the Sirrus/XM install once I figure out where I want to put antenna(considering just above 3rd brake light) but for most part new HU project almost done. So sweet and Crutchfield for me was well worth it. Couple of awww fudgeee mistakes for this ole fart but Stairway to Heaven sounds so great out of this Kenwood with Hertz K170/X130 speakers

Sanded the flares. Supposedly my bumper was to be media blasted by today.....it wasn’t, hoping tomorrow it’s done; so I can bedliner all the pieces this weekend. I might do the lower front chrome strip too, I’m sure I’ll have enough black stuff to make it happen.

Mine is above the center of the windshield. Ran it through a grommet by the brake booster, up the windshield moulding, and across the top. Super easy and the reception is good.

I was watching the LEGO movie the other night with our 3yo, I thought of you. Batman, in the movie, is just like you, if it’s not black it’s not right. “Not black enough” was a memorable line!

 

My steering wheel is in excellent shape but would love to add the buttons on right showing in your last pic. Would it be as simple as finding that button harness and then reprogram

I'll add that location to my short list but given I still have back panel, driver side rear side trim where seat belts are attached and driver rear door sill still off, my plan is to feed cable over to rear driver side, down, then under carpet toward center console. That's an easy one to remove. Might even take DVD player out of center console for more storage room while it's removed.

 

I finally installed the Eibach (SPC) upper control arms. I read enough install tips that said they made it work with the rental ball joins presses so I proceeded. I eventually did get the upper ball joint out of the drivers side, but a half hour job became a four hour job I couldn't get the passenger side out, so I finally gave up and grabbed the total chaos tool from totyec. Saved me so much time, I really should have just bought the right tool in the first place. Everything else was super easy and smooth.

Then I retrofitted my headlights. Love it and it was much easier than I anticipated. Highly recommended!

The only downside is I painted the inside of the headlights black and now my corner lights look really dumb. Does anyone know if I can remove the lens of the corner light so I can paint the inside of that black also?

 

Looks good! Supposedly the corners are either permaseal, or plastic welded together. Headlight builders will literally cut open a light if it’s sealed like that, then seal them back together who knows how.
Maybe you could paint that shade/tint spray on the corners?

 

Been meaning to add that I finally got around to doing the final tweaking/aiming on my new headlight housings....Mini H1 w/halos, Audi style DRL light strip with sequential/directional turn signals, 6K HIDs

To all you guys getting touchscreen double dins and reverse cameras... Im wanting to get a touchscreen with backup camera myself, but whats the deal with tapping in to the parking brake? Do I need to do this, or just bypass it with those kits out there? What happens if I dont connect it at all? Ive been looking around online as I know this isnt really specific to Tundras, but im still confused and figured some of you have already done this with the same truck as me so might as well ask here. Thanks! Oh, does me having a manual transmission matter?

Most of the stereos require the parking brake to be set before accessing certain features and settings on the stereo. Many people do the bypass so they can hit those features whenever they want. That's what I did too. It's very easy.

 

The only "kit" I used was an 18 awg ring terminal for the light green Park SW wire and attached it to a screw on back of HU by harness. Dean and Fernado @Five Star Car Stereo were my go to guys !

It simply means you'd possibly beat me in a 1/4 mile

Most radios that require a ‘parking brake ground’ can be grounded anywhere. You can put an eyelet on the wire and ground it to the radio body itself. Pioneer is one company that the radio has to see 12v+ first and then 12v- for you to access the menu. They got smart and figured people were just grounding them anywhere but they sell bypasses on Amazon for around $12.

 

If you just want the right side controls all you have to find are the controls and the ribbon cable to the other side. The same 3 wires for the extra command s
