It’s very easy to understand. Maybe you’re a millennial and haven’t been through the shortages and price surges (I’m 39, but been in this since 2006).
Every time there is a disruption in the Country, people buy ammo - it’s a safety thing. Same reason gun sales skyrocket. It’s a fact, and it happens. So, since it’s a thing...supply and demand, well...prices go up.

Buy it Cheap, Stack it Deep.

When you shoot thousands of rounds a month, and then the shit disappears for literally YEARS at a time, you’d understand.
If you enjoyed salmon, steak, and chicken for dinner every week, and then all of the sudden you were forced to eat soy beans and quinoa for 1-2 years because your likings disappeared, and then increased in price X 3 when it came back into stock, would you buy a freezer and keep some stock? (I hunt, and prefer game, so that’s what my extra freezer is for) but you get the point.

    Or maybe not.

I did make about $20K profit in 2006-2013 because I learned the game. And had fun with it, as a hobby. Took nearly none of my time, just smart purchases - that were fun.

My reloading stash is just as plentiful.
Last week I added 8lbs of pistol powder to the stash, which I think now I can reload about 40K rounds of 9mm. That’s good for 6 years.

To each their own. Different strokes for different folks. We like to shoot, therefore we always want to be able to at a reasonable price....hence stock.

If I only shot a couple hundred rounds a month, sure, 10K sounds like a lot. But the past 3 weeks I’m already almost 2,000 rnds down.

Sportsman’s Warehouse pistol Ammo shelf last week.

    :D
    LOL!!!

    My ammo life lessons:

*Add one or two green 50 cal Ammo cans at a time. Place cans in more than two areas.

*Don’t EVER buy ammo while she is with you. Ever.

*Don’t EVER let her find an ammo receipt.

*Don’t EVER ask for ammo, for any type of present.

*Don’t let her walk down the ammo aisle.

*Don’t ever put yourself in a situation where she is around, and the cost of ammo comes up.

There does come a point, where they just don’t get it. (I figured this out when she counted my AR’s) I just picked up 12 x 50 cal cans a few months ago and filled them. Placed them with the others - she has no clue. Life is good. Play it safe. Good luck out there!

Or better yet, just don't have a "her" in your life. You'd be amazed how much less stress there is and money left for guns and ammo.

Never - ever - show your wife your full inventory of ammo or guns. When things calm down she will remember and believe me the subject of how much you spent will come up. Women never forget anything :)

Please tell me i am not the only person here that finds "surprise ammo" when going through bins in the garage , drawers in the house , and cleaning out the truck.
I had forgotten i bought 2 , 1K loose boxes of M855 until i was building shelves in the garage and i moved some surprisingly heavy totes. Opened those to see what the hell was weighing them down and got a 2 K round present.

Yeah after Obama left office and ammo prices returned to normal I stocked up. A zombie will most likely eat me long before I run out of ammo.

LOL! Not 2K rounds - but 2 days ago I was looking for an old plate carrier in plastic bins out in the garage - thought it was just with empty boxes of junk. Ended up finding a Larue QD SPR mount, few hundred rounds of Black Hills .223, few hundred rounds of FGMM .308, a sling, 6 pmags in mag holsters, and a handful of loaded Glock mags.

    Nice.
I lost one of my InForce weapons lights about two weeks ago. Went through all the range bags and stuff - didnt find it. So i ordered a new one.
Driving to work the day after i reached into the door pocket on the truck for a water bottle and found the little bastard under my hydroflask.
    I love finding tactical treasures.
and now i have two lights

Congratulations!!!!! You are a millennial! I have no clue why everyone born between 80 and 90 talks shit about millennials. Kinda just reinforces the stereotype actually.

    Congratulations, do your homework.
It’s not worth arguing but I’ll leave this right here.
I’m a blend, aka Xennial. I was born in 81. If I was born 2 months earlier I’d “technically” be a Gen-X by what most consider. I didn’t have the internet growing up, no cell phones, I have never had the book-face, or “Insta”. Rode our bikes home when the street lights came on. Skateboarded to work at 15. But also learned how to use cell/computer later in adult life.
That is NOT the definition of millennial. And I didn’t post that to get into some type of debate in regards to which is superior, I could care less.

And in regards to the comment, I was guessing the person hadn’t been through ammo panics before. That’s why I used the term millennial. Which dated their birth closer to present day.

You should look into reinforcing your facts.

    Me either.
I've tried to show her firearm related and Tundra stuff I've bought and she just rolls her eyes and says "enjoy your little hobby".
BUT, we have separate checking accounts.

Granted we are older and the kids are long gone.
Bills get paid, money gets saved, we spend extra on whatever.
She doesn't care what I buy for my hobbies (guns and the Tundra).
I don't care how many purses, clothes, pair of shoes, or whatever for the house that she buys.

I know that wouldn't work for everyone, but it works for us.
We actually have a lot more money saved since being married (the last 12 years) than we both did when we were single..

LOL! Nice to know there’s others just like us! Our friends think we’re crazy with separate accounts (actually have multiple separate accounts, and one joint).
But guess how many fights we’ve had over money - the past 20 years! Nearly zero. Although I pay for 85% of everything, at least I don’t get scolded for my purchases she doesn’t understand lol.

I told her that her money is my money and her money is my money. She said OK

She hasn’t complained at all. I know it’s shocking but I’ll take it.
