Any turbo builds for 2nd or 3rd Gens?

So my buddy's trying to talk me into setting up a turbo on 2010 RCSB sr5 trd4x4 with the 5.7. A quick search on here didn't reveal much. I'm hoping somebody might have a few pictures of a decent set up.

 

For those numbers, I feel like a supercharger would be a much easier route considering they are both putting out the same numbers.

 

Well ideally I'm hoping for a cheaper option then the TRD/Magnuson s/c.

I am also a little biased towards superchargers as well because I'd rather have the power through the whole range of RPM, not just when I'm at 4K+

Our shop Tundra also had an AEM water-methanol injection system

 

Depends on the size of the turbo, a lot of OEM setups use small turbos so you get full boost/torque as low as 1500rpm.

 

We are currently in the process of putting twin turbos on a 07 Tundra 4x4 and as you are finding this is no easy task. We have been fortunate to find a great support of people and shops here and there to help move the project forward. It is a little late in the build but the transmission and engine have been built to handle everything these turbos can put out. Keep in mind this is a mild build, being its uncharted waters, not much previous knowledge to pull from and its going to be an everyday driver that has to run on 91 octane fuel in 110*+ Arizona heat. Here are few pictures from the fabrication shop.

 

For larger engines, I prefer superchargers all day. Instant power without the lag or extra plumbing.

 

I hope the engine was pulled and the stock internals where changed if not good luck all I will say.

My mistake the turbos snap gauged at 53.5mm, see picture and they are journal type. I would tend to agree with the simplicity of adding a supercharge from a kit but this owner wanted to be unique and he voted for turbos. I believe the TRD supercharging kit can still be bought from Magnuson and Toyota TRD will even install a safe tune.

Plus if you want to keep the hundie from gettin snatched off the dashboard our vote is turbos.

Yes the engine and the transmission both have been built to handle the anticipated HP of those twins. As for longevity its a fine relationship, when you want one higher the other will have to be lowered.

 

Building a custom intercooler....

 

That's nucking futz man! Can I ask how much this build is guna cost ?

We would rather not say, but as you can imaging it's not a small ticket...built engine, built transmission and a custom one off turbo system.

What tune are you guys thinking about running on this setup? Also, is it going to be able to run e85 and switch to 93? I've been planning my own system on gt2860rs turbos and AEM Infinity. Big part for me is getting the manifolds made and the IC piping . Finding the pistons and rods are quite simple since C/P will make the pistons and Pauter has the X-Beam rods. Did you guys balance the crank?

Lot of questions but thats what happens when you want to vent into the atmosphere!

We're going to tune it on the dyno but Haltech might help us with a base tune. For simplicity we're only using 91 octane fuel maps. Yes, we internally balance the engine.

Also if your looking for the same intake that's on the Dynosty rollers is was make by Sleeper Design.

 

Cool! Yea the Haltech will definitely do it. Would there be a option for me to just buy the manifolds from you guys outfitted with the flange(s) of my choice? T4 with a vband wastegate pipe?

I think we can work on something but let us get through this build first, that way we hopefully iron out most of the bugs.

Now that this guy is covering the R&D cost, might be a kit in the pipeline?

 

Its been a minute since we've accomplished anything, therefore the lack of pictures. The driver side header took three revisions before it worked and could be pulled out without pulling the engine. I know most people would be fine with a one and done but we want this thing to be user friendly and serviceability goes along with that.

Ardnut, there are places in the system that only have 1" of clearance so its not something were going to be able to mass produce, especially considering the driver side header.

There are not, in fact they are each being feed by one side of the motor. The tube you see between them is the outlet for the driver side turbo making its way to the passenger side fender, where it combines into one and off to the intercooler. These are true duals, each having there own exhaust inlet and exhaust outlet tubing.
