I can’t hit the like button on that one, but consider this an air hug due to social distancing.

Sorry to hear about all that loss. I had heard about everything but grandpa and hamster.

Have you been placed on quarantine in crews yet?

We started yesterday. My team doesn’t go back until April 20, unless people get sick.

Merchant Marine Officer. Navigator on a U.S. flagged oil tanker that makes foreign voyages. We're considered "essential" by the government. Currently anchored offshore Mexico and sitting on 14 million gallons of regular unleaded waiting to discharge.

Wife works insurance but has fortunately worked from home for the last 7-8 years, goes into the main office once or twice a month. She has an office in the house networked to a mainframe at her company, so she's used to "social distancing" while I'm away on my (usually) three month long work tours.

With my grown kids it's a mixed bag; daughter and spouse both in the medical field and working. Son and spouse both work in the service industry and have been laid off indefinitely in the last week. Daughter in law was manager of a large chain restaurant that has shut down due to the virus and son worked for a fine food restaurant that is shuttered as well.

Looks like I'll be helping out with the son and his significant other soon, but hey that's what families are for. We've got a big old empty nest and plenty of room if it comes to that.

Most important thing is we all try and stay healthy and do the best we can to slow the spread of this pathogen. Americans have proven in the past that we can deal with adversity and sacrifice. Now is the time when we should put aside our differences and unify for the greater good.

I've noticed just about everyone is being deemed essential. Only things I've heard non essential are teachers, some restaurant dine in employees that aren't being re-purposed to take out/delivery, and car dealers (although some are arguing that the transportation sector is essential).

Edit: Also some state and federal employees like the BMV/DMV have been sent home around here but mostly paid.

Noticed also. All those hourly folks who bust their butts waiting on our drunk asses are really taking a beating. Last dine (Huddle House) out we did I tipped them 100%, and the kitchen crew. When things get back to normal I think i'll start doing it going forward for a while.

Insurance, notary, and PA motor vehicle services. We are allowed to come in each day but the public is not allowed in. Currently we're half essential, half non essential!

That's what our unit is likely doing

There are 7 of us and we have been told we need a minimum of 3 on. I am on call right now, waiting for the call up. We are thinking they will be implementing 2 week on/off rotations.

But throw in sick time, prebooked leave and other things like discretionary time (family sick), child care needs for some, etc, it's going to be a gong show
We were actually right in the midst of hiring a new person, but I'm sure that has been put on hold.

That sounds about right. We are shipping in man camp trailers. There was talk about sleeping on cots, and some of us were just going to bring our RVs. Then people complained about that.

    Shit show.

I work for a financial services provider. So, if needed, I have to go into the office. However, the company is doing everything that it can to have all the employees work from home. We have been WFH for the past 2 weeks and, because of the shelter in place mandate from the local counties, we will be WFH for at least the next 3 weeks.

    i am so restless.....

Not happy she can't go to the office, she has to work at home and she hates it.
Also not too happy she can't get her nails done until this stuff is over..
