I just saw a news article that Toy will be recalling all 16/17 trucks to replace the resin brackets for the back bumper with steel brackets.
The story states that the resin can become compromised/cracked from being bumped, and then when the user is standing on the bumper it could break, causing a safety issue.

Letters will begin shipping in Mid Feb for the recall.

A little of this and a little of that.
Thanks for the heads up! (you'd think with the money they get for one of these tundras they could put a steel one on there to begin with.)

So does this mean the 2015 has steel brackets?

The news stated it was also for the factory installed side steps....same resin brackets apparently.

I'm pretty sure the plastic brackets in lieu of steel were a weight saving effort by Toyota to increase mileage.

This'll be really interesting since the resin brackets are used because of the Blind spot monitoring (sonar?) which doesn't work with metal nearby. I'll be stoked 'cause I've already broken one of mine, glued and screwed it back together and I can stand on it. And, what about those that have installed back up lights? I was just getting ready to install some pods in the bumper......guess I'll put that off for a while. Thanks @zlaneb for the heads up.

I spoke with my Sales Person last night and she said Toyota is doing a "stop sale" meaning they can not sell Tundras with certain VINs. Had to pull 18 Tundras off the lot.
When they get the parts then she can sell me the one I had picked out.

2018 Tundras shouldn't be out on the lot. It hasn't even be released at the auto-show yet. I think you mean 2017?

I think he is saying they pulled 18 trucks off the lot...not 2018 Tundras

I downloaded the app. Doesn't have anything for my truck. May just be the higher trim levels with the proximity censors.

"Remedy not available" is what it currently says, for my truck. The BSM is gonna cause some problems.

Yup, got it for my Platinum. She goes in for oil change/tire rotation on Saturday. I will inquire then...Thx

UPDATE: Dealer service writer hadn't heard of this one yet and just told me to wait until they contact me - they will have parts and schedule the repair at that time.

Hmmm... is it only for certain VINs? My owners app is showing no recalls for mine.

    Mine didn't either

My guess is the trim levels that do not have the blind spot monitor already have steel brackets or something stronger than the resin. Someone stated above that the steel interferes with the censors so they would have had to use a different material on those trim levels (Limited, Platinum, 1794).

I saw this yesterday. This was the first thing that I removed and sold lol. Although I think it only impacts the 2016 + models

I used the Toyota Owners App on my iPhone that @louscrw posted above. I had to enter my VIN and the recall notice showed up.

I don't think 2015's are impacted. When I replaced my rear bumper with the N-Fab bumper it had steel brackets. Interesting that they would change this though..
