Newly purchased truck(to me). It came factory equipped with Toyota Remote Start and Alarm including the glass break sensor. However, active alarm and remote start are not working. Passive alarm works, but only the additional measures related to the passive alarm, not the entire security system working properly. I'm betting I'm looking past something simple here and hoping someone can point me in the right direction, but I'm pulling my hair out on it, being quite mechanically inclined and having spent 12+ hours on it without there being extensive instructions online on how to troubleshoot this.

    Steps I've attempted:

    - Read the install instructions for the remote start and initialization procedure. Went through it a bunch of times. But upon completion of the initialization procedure, the security light still flashes(never goes solid). Clues: In the install instructions on the remote start, it asks you to Key in and out to confirm immobilizer - mine confirms correctly. Close doors and hood and lock from remote to confirm alarm presence - mine fails this test and starts blinking immediately. It does this even when bypassing the hood switch(jumper wire) to take it out of the equation altogether.

    - Hooked into techstream which is where I played with the passive alarm settings. However, I can find NOTHING to activate or deactivate the "active" alarm system and/or remote start system. I'm definitely not saying it isn't tucked into techstream somewhere, but I can't find it. Just the one tab with the passive alarm stuff in it. At this same time, I did a system-wide check for trouble codes and come up with a couple in the archive but nothing at all active.

    - So, it appears that my truck isn't "seeing" the active alarm and thus remote start at all. What could cause this? A fuse somewhere I'm overlooking? A bad connection somewhere? I honestly don't know, hence why I'm asking for guidance from an expert. (Confirmed glass break sensor both in the adjustable sensitivity module behind lower dash and speaker in bottom of the middle console beside the USB plugs) and remote start by original sales sticker and original owner input that it had it. Dealer wants $125 to simply hook up to it. Will go aftermarket on the whole setup long before I do that -- but I would prefer the factory alarm be working and simply add an aftermarket remote start setup. Thanks in advance and sorry for being long-winded.

There is no "options setup" tab under customize in techstream for me.

Driver side headlight doesn't work. Changed lights, checked fuses in engine compartment. Turn signals work. What's best guess. Neither low or high beams.

It's been several years since I worked at the Toyota dealership, however, I'll see what I can help you with just from memory. Did you plug/ unplug the small jumper wire at the correct time? Did you perform the "handshake" with the remote start ecm through Techstream?

All I did was put new plug and play LED lights in because HID in drivers side went out. Figured I just burned it out. However passenger side works perfectly, drivers side still nothing. I got 18v at fuse, 4.5 at center pin on harness, but the hard white epoxy in Toyota harness is not hard... It's a gel???

I did follow the directions for the remote start exactly. Seemed to go well through the steps with feedback(lights flickering, etc early in the process), but ultimately end up failing.

Not sure on the "handshake"? Can you walk me through that?

Ok I initially read your post too quickly, I was under the impression that you were trying to install the Toyota factory VIP remote start. Was the remote start added to your truck by the dealership at delivery? How are you positive it came equipped with remote start?

Yes the remote start came with the truck at new. Additional charge on the original sticker + the instructions on the key ring along with the key remotes + original owner telling me it had it.

I played around in techstream even more today. Ultimately, it appears the truck doesn't even realize it has an active alarm or a remote start. Nothing in customize settings indicating that it "sees" either of the two.

I tried that. Said he rarely used the remote start, which was quite believable knowing the guy. Was a preacher, definitely not a tinkerer on this truck. He probably didn't even realize his alarm and the remote start wasn't working.

Honestly, my bigger concern here is the factory "active" alarm, especially with the additional glass break sensor already in place, none of which is working. Although "passive" mode seems to be working fine and going off on me all the time inopportunely since I activated it(just deactivated).

I'd like to have the factory remote start but will end up upgrading that to something that actually works non-stupidly. But the factory alarm is a necessity at this moment in time. At least in as much as I don't end up spending more having a dealership troubleshoot this than a Viper setup would cost me.

Best bet is to hit up James @tech12volts.com

He does group buy in alarms (Fortin) and can literally walk you through the installation. I installed one from him and he helped me when I got stumped.

I have two black G Keys and fobs. He's definitely my first call for the remote start. But I still need the alarm working as a much higher priority at the moment, and I didn't see where they do anything at all for alarm function...

Like I say, I'm betting this is something very simple, but requires an expert that's seen something similar to point me in the right direction. Something isn't plugged in well or more likely an unlabeled fuse that powers all of this is bad somewhere at a disattached location that I am unaware of. I'm just pretty close to wits end on fooling with it. Tried another clean install of techstream a few minutes ago. Still no "options setup" tab to activate the factory alarm under the customize setting. Techstream isn't seeing it's presence at all, it doesn't appear.

Here's the install instructions for my 2015 Sequoia. Maybe something in there will pop out at you as not being set up right in your BCM or 20 pin secondary...
