Speaker Polarity Question

My business is shut down and so I have way toooo much time on my hands. I downloaded the AudioTools app yesterday which allows you to test the polarity of each speaker. All speakers except for the door tweeters are "negative" while the tweeters comeback "Positive".

I'm using the stock JBL HU--->DSR1--->Infnity Kappa 5. The tweeters are "piggybacked" with the door speaker wires at the amp. I double-checked and the wires are all correct based on the stripe on the wire but I am using a custom made harnesses to connect the speakers to the factory wire harnesses.

My guess is something is backwards with how the harnesses are wired? I should be able to just switch the piggybacked tweeter wires at the amp and get everything to test "negative"...correct?

As long as the tweeters are the same polarity then it should not really matter as they are in phase with each other.
Phasing really only effects Bass response so I wouldn't worry about it.

But sure if you want to easily flip the tweeter wires on one end to change that there is no issue doing that either.

 

Thanks ezdog! How about the subwoofer? It’s current in phase with the door/dash speakers set to 180.

 

Well being set to 180 means that it is exactly out of phase with the other speakers,thats what the setting does assuming that the wiring is correct too.

Usually this is set for the best sounding bass response once installed and there is no telling really which will be preferred until you hear it installed and not everyone agrees either about which sounds better regardless of measurements.

So there is no real harm in it being se either way but if you did not set it yourself it might be worth changing back and forth to see if sounds best to you the way it is set now......or if you can even tell any difference which also happens a lot or can be questionable lets say?

 

If I recall, the clip side of every plug is the positive.

Interesting...James from Tech12Volts stated the tweeters are intentionally wired with the opposite polarity of the midwoofer. I'm kind of enjoying learning about car audio. Really some pretty good Youtube videos from some guys who very bright and excellent at explaining and present the material.
