1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

Well University officially "shut down" as of midnight tonight. I'm essential but not completely so I'll be called in 4hrs 2 days a week. Fortunately normal pay applies for 40 and if they change it I've got almost 1000 hours of PTO.

It can't ever really shut down since we've still got some students on campus and someone has to check on building systems.

Ok. It's time we had a real discussion about this. People should be able to voice their opinions on matters that involve our trucks. What Jon said is true. People dont make a lot of shit for 1st gens. That's why we have the sticky for the armor! @ColoradoTJ come on man, you may not be a first gen guy but you gotta see the writing on the wall. Nobody makes shit for us compared to 2nd/3rd gen guys. Jon got a bit tired of it and blew a gasket. (At least he didn't have a ¾ torque wrench ( FaF reference, sorry.)) But you gotta realize, as first gen owners, most of us don't give a fuck about saying things that offend people, doing things that offend people, or just driving trucks that offend people. In general, (man I feel like the guy from breakfast club), we dont care about offending people. We say what we feel, an consequences be damned.

 

Let's all just take a step back and let it go. @bmf4069 you're a good friend but none of us need to fall on our swords to save Jon. It's not gonna do any good. If you get banned then the 3rd gen guys will slowly take over this section.

A few observations from a Professional Hand Model:

1) Lots of drama right now in this 1st Gen Section and the world.

2) We have old trucks. If you want something made, then hire someone locally to do it custom and don’t bitch about how much it costs. Its custom and you are supporting a made USA product and a local business to your area. Been saying this repeated. It costs more for custom, but its unique!

3) If a business doesn’t want to offer something, then why don’t you fill the gap and make it?

4) I despise 1st Amendment stifling more than I do the commies/socialists infecting and weakening our Constitutional liberties, but on this site rules are rules you agreed to when signing up.

5) Its been a good 2 years here on this site for me and I can’t keep up with everyones projects etc with all the new members. Glad to see everyone fixing their 1st Gens. I’ve learned a lot along the way and am very appreciative.

6) I’ll be watching from afar from here out. I may not like your post, but just know I would if I could if I wasn’t working so hard on Wurrld Peas. BTW, the veggies aisles are very full even while everything else is out of stock.

So heres the deal. The only reason Jon was in the wrong is because of the CoC. It's kinda like if America goes tits up and bans ARs, a lot of us are gonna be criminals, but rightfully so. He had an opinion and voiced it. Prior violations be damned. That vendor was trying to make profit on a serious issue, and didn't have shit to offer us. What he did wasn't a perma ban offense. Nor a 30 day. It wasn't political, sexual, or offensive.

The fact that he violated the CoC isn't in question. The CoC itself, is what's in question. This forum full of truck loving, gun loving, right wing people cant say anything that 99% of what the people think. Yall are catering to the 1% to save face. And for what? The 2 or 3 people on here that might get offended? Ban me if you will, but just know this: what has just started can't be undone.

My googling has led me to believe I need a

$37 Metra 70-8117 Factory Amplifier Bypass Harness fits Select 2003-2006 Toyota Vehicles

Metra 70-8117 to bypass the amp, but it appears to me the 70-8117 needs an adapter to plug into my new stereo. What a colossal PITA. Not having Bluetooth sucks. The stereo sounds like the poops if I turn it up loud enough to hear, so I know this current configuration isn’t long for this world.
As I’m not super keen to re-wire the whole GD stereo system from scratch, I would really appreciate some help here.
The stock radio is a Fujitsu 86120.

 

Can't you just remove the amp? I thought someone else did that. My 02 had a factory amp that I removed when I installed the head unit that I gave you. Sound actually improved without the amp because of the new head unit.

 

Were my amp in the dash, yes. But mine is under the back seat. So the ‘workaround’ is a bit more complex.

 

True, but the backseat is easy to remove. Your call though. Good luck either way. I won't be offended if that stereo doesn't work. Just pay it forward.

 

They’re expensive for the one piece liner, but I would definitely do a liner. I didn’t and that’s what I spend 90% of my sweat doing; trying to make it waterproof as possible. We already loose A LOT to evaporation, I didn’t want any more going into the ground. One day in the future, I’d love to do a big swimming hole pond in our back yard. I’ve read lots of cool articles and seen some really cool ones. No chlorine to burn you or your kids eyes either, the dogs can get in and not overrun the chemicals, a awesome little oasis.

 

Yeah Jon went through this issue. Oh wait he is perma banned. Guess we can't ask him for guidance.

Got a guy in the Tacoma forum to print me some decals that are in the style of the older tacoma decals. Im not sure how great it will look but it was only $15 so we will find out.

Also the 2wd sticker probably wont go on but it was already included in the template so.

 

Ho Lee Chit... Read this if you purchased spark plugs on eBay.

Some of you have likely heard of counterfeit Denso spark plugs from China. Well, they aren't lying. I bought Denso(or so I thought) iridium plugs for my wife's Rav4 around 20,000 miles ago before I startred hearing about the fake plugs on eBay destroying some engines.

Folks, I narrowly avoided disaster. Look at these things. First of all, the center electrodes are just little nubs now and about 2x the required gap. But that's not the worst part.

The tip of the ground electrode is split on 2/4 plugs. Who knows how long it would have been before pieces broke off.






After comparing the new ones side by side and using online guides, you can spot the differences. These are definitely counterfeit.

Yes! I remember you mentioning that in the other thread. I feel bad for anyone not aware. I keep looking at these fake ones, amazed at their condition. I might share this in the other thread to get the word out. I'm also amazed her car was still running normal.

 

Yea.. eBay and Amazon I avoid for parts critical like that.

 

I had a set of injectors a guy bought and had me instal in his 4runner. truck ran, but ran SUPER rich. Pulled the injectors out affer 300 miles and the pintels had started to melt into the intake!
