Pricing on new Tundras

Second post; so if I'm violating any (un)/written rules, feel free to give me crap.

Currently own an F150...so yeah, that's why I'm here. LOL Honestly, my '13 has given me no issues at all over 123K miles, but it's not a Toyota; and after the wife got her Highlander a year and some change ago, the new vehicle bug bit me hard.

Currently looking at some 2020 SR5 CrewMaxes with the SR5 upgrade package. Without going into the dealership, they're around 39.2K; and I'm wondering what others are seeing/buying at. I'm thinking I can get them down a bit more, but I definitely don't want to waltz in there only to be told to GTFO either.

 

It's really hard since everyone gets them with different dealer add ons, are they including tax, and license? Tax and license is different everywhere.

That's actually immensely helpful. I'm literally looking at a 2020 SR5 CrewMax 4x4, no other options. (There are a few around here.) I think the lowest I've seen is $36,783 (not including tax), but that seems to be in line with, or a bit lower than, what the tool you showed gave me.

 

I can say shop around at other dealers in your area and have them make quotes for you.
I was able to take 4000 off msrp on my tundra, which reduced tax as well.
I also got the 0.9 apr and a 500 dollar down payment rebate.
Out the door I was at 35300 including all taxes/fees before down payment.(I got them down to 33,000)
When they first quoted me it was at 40,240(out the door) or at 38300 for the truck with just 0.9 since they wouldn't apply incentives.
This is for a double cab sr5 with spray in bed liner and a few other options.

 

I've done that (well, virtually). The local Toyota dealership has a salesman we're familiar with, but no lower-spec'd stuff. (E.g., a few double cabs, then *one* SR5 CrewMax with $7K of options, then on to the Limiteds) I'm thinking of simply asking if they 'can' do a dealer locate.

The truck I'm currently looking at is $5K off of MSRP, plus the $500 military thing, and I know I'll qualify for 0.9% APR....so it sounds like I'm on the right track. I appreciate the input.

 

There were several pricing threads on the 2019 and 2020s. The consensus for most from what I read was shoot for about 11.2% OFF MSRP, then subtract any other rebates if taking that over special financing. Good luck with the purchase, you won't regret it. Be prepared for terrible gas mileage though in case you didn't know.

 

Regarding the pricing threads, where I work, web browsing can suck, so my apologies for the pricing spam post; after about 10 minutes of not working I said "Bah!" and just posted the thread.

Not worried about the gas mileage; as it is, I'm getting 15.9MPG with the '13 F150 5.0 I have, and that's unloaded, driving like I'm taking Grandma to church; so I don't expect a huge difference; but for me, reliability > MPG.

I got around 13% off msrp which I think is okay. I had never thought about shopping around virtually like I did for this truck and it paid off!
My current MPG for the last 68 miles(how many miles on the truck) is 15.1

 

I drive mine like a grandma getting up to speed, but go with the flow of traffic.
My commute is 50/50 and I am averaging 15.1, which isn't bad in my opinion.
I had an 02 chevy, and on the same commute, I got 11.8 (Edit, and it was a HECK of a lot slower and not as fun to drive)

 

I do that naturally, as I'm an IT guy (read: huge nerd LOL) but I also realize that shopping virtually and actually wheeling-n-dealing in person can be vastly different.

I'm not too worried then; MPG on my '13 F150 (5.0L 4x4 SCab, unloaded, driving super easy) is 15.9, so it sounds as if MPG should be right around that.

I wasn't trying to insuate you did anything wrong by posting a thread. I know the search function can be tough to use. I was just trying to give you the consensus on pricing based off my research on the thread. I bought a 2019 with the info.

 

That's not bad at all; I'm about the same (50% driving some Ozarks hills; 50% in town).

 

MPGs will get better as it breaks in. Dealership told me they had a customer tell them it improved up to about 10k.

 

No, actually, as an IT guy who researches on a semi-frequent basis, I'm *saying* I probably could have researched more; but was probably too impatient LOL I appreciate all the help.

 

hahaha yep! I generally do all my shopping online and try to find the best deal, just never thought about it with a car--I even did it when I swapped the t56 magnum into my camaro and got 600 dollars off the transmission for it!

Yep, mine is CA-99 and some surface streets to get to work. You may even get better than me.
When I lived in Homer, Alaska my old Tacoma would get about 24, here in CA it got around 19.

 

One thing I have learned - I take my wife with me. Seriously. My wife is freaking BRUTAL when it comes to getting a deal.

On the truck I bought 7 years ago, I was at 24K; the dealer was originally at 28.7K. I got him down to 24.7K, and was willing to stop. The guy asked me "Are you going to quibble over $700?"

Wife interrupted me to say "Are YOU going to quibble over $700? Look. Our truck is paid off, so you need to sell a truck a hell of a lot worse than we need to buy a truck."

*cue internal thoughts of 'Dayum'*

Guy actually got upset....but we got the deal. LOL!

My wife walked away over 300 dollars on a prius prime about 2 years ago. They definitely lost that sale.

 

Update:

Went in to talk to the salesman last night; right now (without any haggling at all) they're right around $38K for a CrewMax 4x4 SR5 (an option or two); and they're talking about $10K for my truck ('13 F150 XLT 5.0L 4x4). I should be able to either get them up on the trade-in or down a bit on the cost of the truck.

With that said, whether I like it or not, I'll have to wait until next Tuesday or so to move on it, as both our family and the salesman will be out of town for the weekend. I'm thinking if I can get them to at LEAST $10.5K on the trade-in, and down to $37.5K on the truck, it'll be a decent deal.

Most importantly, however:

Wife is onboard with the truck purchase.

 

What is MSRP on the truck? (I think they around 40,000?)
Have you tried costco pricing if you were a member, initially that is what my plan was--had them down 2k off MSRP before I really shopped around. That looks to be where you're at. I think you are on the right path. Can't wait to see pictures!

 

Have you ran Trade in value on your F150? Seems a little low for a full size truck. Even being a Ford.

 

MSRP on the truck I'm looking at is $42K or so, I believe. I did want to point out that I mentioned that I've not even begun to haggle; pretty positive I can get them down at least another 1K on MSRP, and maybe up a bit more on trade-in.

I have. 'Good' value (which is likely fair - it's got one small ding, a few scratches here and there) has it from $8458 to $10637; so if I can get near the top end of that, and an extra $1K off, it'll be a decent deal.

 

Just purchased a 2020 DC 4x4 Sr5. Wanted/needed the bigger bed and the backseat in the DC was plenty since its just my wife and I.
Truck I wanted had an MSRP of 47,298 and with Dealer addons it was 48,267.96
I paid 36,509.74

 

Wow - that’s a better deal than what I got - and I got a great deal! How’d you manage that?

 

Have you tried Edmunds?? It gives you the dealer list and dealer cost. I found it helpful.

 

I started by going on the Toyota Build your truck web page and learned ever detail of every option that I wanted. Then I went to four different Dealers, telling them I'd buy a truck if they could beat all other dealers. I showed them ads where F150 and GMC both were offering up to 14k off on some models. Had to wade through all the salesman talk about how the Tundra is better, but they would finally give me a quote. I had them put it in writing and then would go to another dealer and by the time I was done after about a week, I bought a 48k Truck for just under 36k out the door. That included tax and lic. Now with the economy going down, you could get 12 to 14k off a Tundra if you really worked it hard, worked one dealer against another, and walked in knowing everything about every option. Just do not play their game and be willing to walk away. Mark my words, they will call you in a day and ask what they can do to get your business. Give them your price and if they are willing to do it, get it in writing. Once you are certain you have reached the best possible deal, buy it.

 

No luck so far for me striking a deal. I’m pre-approved for a loan and ready to purchase but, can’t seem to find a dealer willing to make a sale. Damn shame.

 

There is a problem with comparing discounts to ads from the big 3. The big 3 play the mind game of marking them up to show big discounts. Yes Toyota also mark's up MSRPs but not like the big 3.

 

I paid a hair over $40k before tax, license and fees in late 2016. I have the SR5 upgrade with TRD package as well as navigation. At the time, I had done my research and felt it was a good price so I moved forward with the purchase. I negotiated everything through email including my trade in within a $500 range to leave some wiggle room since they were quoting without actually seeing the vehicle.

They had my truck pulled off to the side when I arrived. My wife and I hopped in with the sales guy for a test drive and I hopped out 30 seconds later and told the salesman I didn’t need to test drive the truck because I knew I already wanted it. I left the dealership about an hour later feeling like I’d picked the best half-ton on the market. 3.5 years later, I still feel the same way and have no regrets on choosing the Tundra or the price I paid.

 

I could have possibly gotten them a bit lower; but given that yours was a DC and mine is a CM, I'm thinking it wouldn't have gotten that much lower. There's also the fact that mine came with 4 years of maintenance, 36K bumper to bumper warranty and a lifetime engine warranty, etc. Had I tried to get them seriously down I'm thinking *maybe* another $750 to $1K, but had trucks gotten any lower in price, around where I live, it'd have been bought quick.

In any event, it's one hell of a lot better truck than the F150 I traded in for it.
