I had a little free time after work and before it got nasty tomorrow so I finally did my front brakes. I bought the power stop 13WL kit from rock auto to replace my 13WE. They were definitely warped, seeing as how it shook horribly from 70-50 mph on deceleration. Not a bad job. About 3 1/2 hours, but that's with slow, pics taken, and bleeding all the brakes. Twice. On with the pics.

The power stop KCOE2324 kit. The mounting hardware for the pads comes with it. You may or may not want another brake grease packet.

    The old stuff.

Doesnt look too bad, but not great either.
    20190301_175459.jpg

Had to trim the dust shields to fit the new calipers. (This is too much on the bottom.) If it was a street car I would've just taken them off.
    20190301_181712.jpg

Test fit after cutting. Looks can be deceiving when you're eyeballing a caliper being held with one hand at dusk.

    What I cut off.

    Caliper and rotor mounted.
    20190301_183203.jpg

    All assembled.
    20190301_184942.jpg

Purdy. New lug nuts installed too. Torqued to however tight my impact goes.

From the underside. Stupid fat finger.

    20190301_210455.jpg

My gf took a pic of me hard at it so I figured I'd throw it in.
    20190301_183943.jpg

So after I finished the swap I bled all the brakes since I dont think I did a good job after the rear brakes. I got a ton of air out, filled 2 20oz bottles with bled out fluid, and bled them twice. And 3 times on the rear of you count after the rear brake job.

    Notes on the job.
I'm not sure about stock 13WL calipers, but with the power stop kit you WILL need to trim your dust shields. A breaker bar will be handy as the mounting bolts are torqued to 90lbs. Also of note, the blenders on the PS kit are 8mm, not 10mm like the rears and brake lines.

All in all not a hard job. About 6 one packs in all. Any questions, comments, or stories about the time you you got drunk and hid in a dumpster to evade the cops in Tijuana are welcome.

I'm thinking about this myself. I have warped rotors as well, and they are only a year old, so I'm thinking about the upgrade.

So what is the actual technical difference between calipers? Why are the WE bad and the WL good?

Interesting that there seems to be a trend of aftermarket calipers using 8mm bleeders. They kind of scare me, not much strength in a hollow bolt that skinny. Looks good, I over did the trimming as well when I did this.

Never hide in the dumpster in TJ, that's the first place the cops look. Better off to find a really big sombrero and hide in that.

Looks good! Only thing I'll add is to go buy yourself a proper torque wrench for the lug nuts, you're not doing your new lug nuts or rotors any favors cranking them on.

I just got my jack back from the shop yesterday. 2 month fix on an $80 jack. But it was free since he didn't fix it right the first time. So if it's nice next weekend they'll go in.

Nice work...thanks for the pix. Yeah, ditch that impact and use a torque wrench. You may not always have access to that impact or a trucker's 4-way on the side of a nasty road when you have a flat to change. Stay out of dumpsters in TJ, as noted...grab an empty Mescal bottle, big sombrero and recline on a plaza bench, if they roust you just pee your pants than stagger off grumbling. They won't follow...they'll figger your broke and drunk, and SOILED. Forget that man.

So how is the braking now? Do you think it has improved over the we setup?

Or should I just upgrade to the Lexus brakes?

I'll add that the brake dust shield you cut has been since updated to allow venting (holes cut in it), which has helped a lot of people with warping issues.

It's better, but it was awful before, so I think it's back to stockish. Better fade and warping resistance I'm hoping.

So these are just bolt on? I remember reading somewhere that shims needed to be installed to center the caliper with the rotor.

FYI if your truck is 04 or newer it probably already has them. I can't remember if 03 had them as well (maybe only partial year?).

10-4, did a search and it is the 14WA caliper that needs adjustment to fit.
