    Definitely excessive.

I don't agree either. A vendor created a coronavirus sale? So classless. What's next? Their annual 'holocaust' sale? o_O

Yeah, seems excessive but he did go rage mode on them. I don't really care if vendors stop making first gen stuff but using covid19 as a sale campaign is pretty trash.

For the first time ever, I'm working from home today. Helping beta-test it for my department so we can roll it out next week in full-force. We'll be rotating 3 days in office and 2 days WFH for my team of 4 until the apocalypse or State are over.

I like to think this will help our department to streamline some things that have been redundant and archaic...but it's still State work. So only time will tell.

Not a dull day was to be had!

Went to work today and I'll admit I was pretty tired. Had a guy call into work so I had to show some things to the team lead that I supervise on our laser. We feel what we thought was a train and then it gets about 10x worse than a heavy freight train crossing the tracks by work (heavy material delivery on what I think is more of less a private line). Everything starts shaking and people go running. Turns out we had a 5.7 quake right about where my work is. The airport was shut down and maybe still is and basically everyone in the industrial area was off work early today.

We also just had another quake or aftershock of 4 something at the house. My wife braces herself and I go to grab the kid as he's still just hanging out watching Bob the builder haha. Nothing dull this week!

Making a sale on Covid-19 doesn't bother me when I think the whole overreaction is absurd....maybe I'll be proved wrong when it's all said and done, but we won't know till then.
Glad you posted with an update....I remembered someone here was in Utah when I heard about the earthquake earlier, but I couldn't remember who...sounds like it was "interesting"...

It was interesting. We got to test the durability of our sheet metal racks! My mom and wife were driving to work and both thought their cars were broken haha.

Man, I really hope so but all my research seems to indicate this does need to be taken seriously. We have medical experts who are telling us this isn't going to be good. The situation in Italy is bleak and their healthcare system is faaaar better than ours. I agree the media is loving this and the people who are panic buying ammo and TP are ridiculous.

But we simply aren't equipped to have a few million people laid up in hospitals. If we want to stop this, we've got to listen to the medical experts and stay home. They beleive 87% of people the have it are not showing symptoms yet. The economy is going to suffer, people will lose their jobs. But the alternative is worse.

What is your source that is showing the healthcare system in Italy being far better than ours?

I'm not looking to start an argument with anyone. We're all friends. I'm just sharing what I'm finding.

Northern Italy in particular is even better tham the rest, and that's where they are having a higher outbreak.

But to answer your question, the WHO rank Italy's healthcare system #2 in the World and ranked us #37. Let's assume they are wrong. It's still safe to say Italy has a really good system in place, and they are completely overrun. The issue is that this virus requires the really sick people to be on ventalators. We simply don't have enough.

    https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.amp...worlds-best-healthcare-system-this-is-the-nhs

Also, not sure if anyone saw the comments from Newt. He's living in Italy and is trying to warn us about what he's seeing.

Not trying to argue, but the WHO rankings system doesn't mean much to me. They rank Canada, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and uae ahead of the USA. They also rank Cuba not far behind the USA. They seem to really hate things like free markets and high survival rates from cancer. And they seem to really like things like socialism. Meanwhile the USA has never stopped anybody from going outside the government run healthcare system to try and save their child. #18 has done just that.
I think covid is serious, but I think if any country can kick it's a$$ it's the USA.

Without going political, I'm betting my money that either the USA or Israel are the ones to come up with a vaccine. Canada's health system was already nearing capacity before the virus and has always been a complete shambles. We're completely fucked now.

That's fair. I know people don't trust the WHO. But the bottom line is that Italy has a great healthcare system and even they are overwhelmed. I was reading today that doctors there are having to decide who lives or dies, based on their chance of survival. So if they can get overrun, it would be naive of us to assume the same can't happen here. I have to trust all our medical experts here who are saying we simply are not equipped to handle millions of sick. We have around 100,000 ICU beds for the entire country. Point being, we all need to stay home and stop spreading this. Trump is saying the same thing.

Lived in Italia for about 4 years. Cool place. It was long ago, but I don’t think their healthcare system was anywhere near ours back then. Still had meat hanging from the awnings next to the fruits etc. Daily market runs were the norm. Sardines and crackers for lunch snacks. City shut down everyday/midday for 2 hours for siesta. Lived a block off the Mediterranean.

So how/why did Italy get hit so hard? It started in China yet none of their neighbors seem to have gotten hit hard. Even in India with horrific sanitary conditions.

Big Chinese immigrant population there to offset their low birthrate replacement. Lots of ‘Mammonis’ running around. Look it up.

Italy's population is predominately older and elderly people, many of whom smoke. They're primary targets for this virus. Added to that, Italy's culture is alot more socially entwined than here in North America. Young people still hang out with old folks daily and it's common to have multiple generations in a single household. Very cool society, however very susceptible to this kind of virus which can be carried unnoticed by a young person and unwittingly passed onto an elder who it destroys.

How long ago was this? Northern Italy is extremely wealthy. They have a top notch healthcare system. No B.S. Maybe not in 1990?

I agree that not taking it seriously would be naive. I think healthcare overruns in this country are a real possibility. There are other factors that might help us to overcome this without turning into Italy. One factor is that Italy's population is a bit older on average than ours (around 10yrs median) and by itself that might be enough.

That is interesting isn't it? There has been big campaigns to get the population in India to use toilets as soon as a few years ago. Maybe it's still happening. With that alone you might expect more, but like phm stated it probably has something to do with Chinese immigration in Italy. The heat in India probably doesn't help and with a country like that who knows if people are sick and dying and not even being counted.
