Sorry, the Ultimate Wax....which I understand is synthetic, so actually more of a sealer.

I typically top a sealant with a carnuba based product....especially after Megs Ultimate.....my experience with that product is that it 'mutes' the color a little...carnuba wax helps along those lines

I haven’t used that product, but generally wax goes on last. Beadmaker should also always go on last. Pretty much either / or, not both. You could always experiment and see though, since I haven’t used the Ultimate Wax.

Picked up some Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax just to give it a try (the green bottle, not the blue spray).

Anyone have experience with it? I followed @briarpatch 's advice of Ultimate Liquid Wax with Deep Crystal Carnauba and really enjoy the result, just looking for something with more longevity. Wondering if layering with carnauba for more color is a waste? Called Megs and one guy suggested doing Carnauba BEFORE using HCLW and another said dont layer it at all.

Washed the Sequoia yesterday and it seems to be holding up very well. Looks like it will be a good product.

    @Pudge and @War Machine,

I plan on ceramic coating my truck this spring. The paint is in good shape, as I have mostly hand washed it since I bought it in 2017. I have also waxed it once or twice a year since. I know that I need to decontaminate the paint and clay bar/mitt it before I ceramic coat. Do I need to polish or anything after the decontamination and before the ceramic coat?

If I need to polish, what type of polish or compound do you suggest, and would it be OK to used the only polisher I have, a cordless Milwaukee? It is not a dual action, but is variable speed. What risks am I running if I don't have a DA polisher?

So I use lots(almost exclusively) Meguiar's products. The Ultimate line is my go-to setup. I use the blue bottle of the Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax with great results. The green is supposed to be utilized after the initial application of the blue bottle, but I just keep using the blue. YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE ALOT. Lots of people have a tendency of spraying alot, but have issues taking it off. It works with just a couple sprays per panel. I use 1 bottle of the blue after about 10-15 applications to my CM Tundra. The green seems to be basically the same as the blue, but it's not supposed to apply as much of a layer. I have been happy with it's protection, longevity, ease of use, and hydrophobic properties!

The issue without using a DA is risking damage, I wouldn't use a drill or a rotary polisher on my paint. That takes A LOT of practice.
You really should polish it to get it super clean and ready to accept the ceramic. Plus you'd both be locking in all the swirls for a few years to come. You could find a cheap DA and a bunch if good pads and polish and do it for around $100 yourself which will be well worth it.
What kind of ceramic will you use?

Most likely I’ll use cquartz unless you guys strongly suggest something else. What type of polish do you suggest after the clay mit?

If you use cquartz then I would use carpro essence as polish/primer. A small bottle will work. Cquartz is what I will use on my truck in a couple months. Another one to look into is 22ple Insanity, I have heard nothing but good things but its twice the price

I’m going to order up some carpro products, and a DA and some pads. What color pads should I be using with the Carpro Essence?

If you get lake country pads,
Orange will give you some cut, and Black will polish nicely.
Or you could go with some buff and shine UroFiber which kinda does both. I like those.
You'll need at least 5 pads for the truck, ideally close to 10 but you ca wash and dry them as you go.
I like using compressed air and a stiff brush to clean them as I go. The urofiber clean up easier imo but the lake county HDO pads are the shit.

You suggest 5 of each type of pad or are you saying 5 total of varying cutting/polishing abilities? Amazon just delivered my order of Lake Country CCS 5.5 pads. Got 3 orange, 3 white, 3 black, and 3 blue. New to the DA polisher stuff. Pairing them with a Griot's G9 and Megs 110, 205, and 210.

Unless you can clean and dry them fast, you would need at least 5 of each to do a truck right. That's is you do a truck without stopping. If you take breaks or do it over a couple days you could wash in between. With the pads you ordered you should be okay, you can use the while and blue too and make it work.

The 105 amd 205 are great products. I used them last summer on my brothers truck and was impressed. They both dust a little but I still recommend them. Here's his 95 Chevy done with 105 and 205, orange and black pads.

Weird question, but do any of you guys think the color of the towel makes a difference? I use a lot of TRC Eagle Edgeless, and I swear some colors seem more stiff and wear out more quickly.

Don’t know if the dye affects the fibers, but the grey ones seem to be the worst, and the orange ones are the best. Might just be in my head though.

I have only used the orange and blue eagle edge less and they seem to be the same to me. However, I do have light blue and purple chemical guys towels that are edge less and the purple are still plush where the light blue ones are matted and unusable for paint. I now use them for wheels.

I personally believe colors make a difference. I've noticed the same with other things where color seems like preference and it affects it. Another example is food coloring. My wife and I notice a difference when cooking same items but different food coloring added.

So, is it viable to add ONR to the soap reservoir of a power-sprayer to make it no rince or will it gum up the machine? How well does it work (if people have tried it)? Thanks

Anyone know if Adams Polishes Wheel Cleaner is safe to use on the 19-20 Pro black BBS rims?

ONR is typically about a cap per gallon I believe, so I wouldn't think it should have issues with clogging.

Shouldn’t clog anything, but I don’t know how well it would work. You’d still have to wipe and dry it, so I’m not sure there’d be any benefit. It’ll streak if it dries on the paint, so you’d probably just be doing double the work.

I’ve used it on my black fuel vapors with no issue, but I didn’t find it to be very effective. Very few Adams products are decent, in my opinion.

You may look into P&S Brake Buster. It’s safe for everything and works decently well.

It will get the job done, there are just better and cheaper options. It’s probably safe for just about any wheel also, since some people use this as an iron remover on their paint.

As for the best options, all of them require agitation to work. It’s just a matter of how harsh of a product you’re willing to use. Since I’m gonna have to scrub anyway, I stick with P&S Brake Buster for the most part. It is really good, reasonably priced, and safe.

Brake Buster is 25.00 a gallon, and Adams Wheel Cleaner is 55.00 a gallon.

One other product is Shine Supply Wise Guy. It has for a long time been the very best tire cleaner on the market, by a long shot. They recently reformulated it to clean wheels also. I have not tried it since the change, so I don’t know how effective it is on wheels.

    https://shinesupply.com/collections/wheel-tire-care/products/wise-guy-gallon

NOTE: I am admittedly ignorant on wheel construction. The note on the site says:
    • NOT for use on anodized or polished aluminum wheels - look at the Pro Tip below for cleaning these kinds of wheels
I don’t know if your wheels fall under this category. I have black Fuel Vapors on mine, and the original formulation of Wise Guy had no ill effects on them. I didn’t use it to clean the wheels, but I obviously got it on them through overspray.

As long as your wheels don’t fall under that category, I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot. I trust Shine Supply completely, and would be surprised if this wasn’t a good option.
