Buying a new truck. Talk me out of buying a F150

100 percent. It was a long term plan Toyota implemented and it paid off with respect to consumer confidence amongst other things globally.

Not to mention if a Ford, Ram or Gm was built on a long weekend. That gift or curse will keep on giving because all they care about is output.

 

I realize this is a 2 year thread. I went from a 2014 F150 to a 2020 Tundra. My f150 went through 2 transfer cases and radiator plumbing in less than the 130K I traded it at. My dads lost the water pump at 135K. My friends lost his oil Pump at 70K. These were all 2014 5.0s except my friends which was a 2013 5.0.

I loved my f150 and it was hard to give it up. I am hoping to have a longer relationship with less problems with the Tundra.

I'm not saying you're wrong necessarily but, if that were true, GMs wouldn't have been getting worse since 2013...

Without watching 35 minutes of video, what is the difference you're referring to?

 

F150 Rear Diff change - Remove 10+ bolts, crack open rear diff case, scrape off seal, put in new seal, replace cover & bolts, fill, replace fill plug

Tundra Rear Diff change - Remove fill plug, remove drain plug, replace drain plug, fill, replace fill plug

Just overall approach to serviceability...not planned obsolescence.

 

Yea that’s it Tundra is a bit easier but what I like about the ford set up which it’s the same as Gm and dodge is that you can remove the cover and really spray down the gears with a cleaner like brake cleaner to get watever shavings are in their and the tundra you can’t cause it’s a Front loader like the old 9 inch fords use to be. But it’s no big deal I have done plenty rear ends with a suction tool to suck out the fluid thru the fill plug without removing rear cover

 

I only drive toyota I dont care about other car brands, my creators have Honda and they have zero issues with there cars but I love trucks and the ridgeline is well..... you all know it's not a pickup truck. But i only go for toyota because of there reliability i dont really care for modern bells and whistles. I had a 2016 tacoma 2wd for 50k miles then switched to the tundra because I wanted a bigger pick up truck but the Tacoma had zero issues

 

Yea same here I drive Honda’s and Toyota’s I’m 43 hopping my Tundra will be my last new purchase I don’t drive it much owned it for a year and 3 months I got 6800 miles on it my work cars are a 1999 Honda Odyssey I got 8 years ago for 800 with a bad trans I rebuilt it getting a little rusty but runs great for work has 168k now and a 2005 Honda Pilot I got 4 years ago for 700 with a bad trans that’s my after work car it has 244k runs great starting to rust as well but it’s reliable I will drive both of them till they die and then drive my Tundra

 

I hunt and I tow stuff. Don’t want to be stuck in the wild so Toyota Tundra was my choice. Have friends with Fords. Love their drama stories. Me, no drama with the Tundra.

Same here pretty much,though the last Ford that I had was flawless for me as well.
Mine was a 2000 F150 RCSB,6cylinder,5 Speed that I sold to a friend when I got my first Tundra and his daughter wrecked it within a Month on ice?

2 Tundra' as I just got the 2nd one that I use to work out of state and tow,Honda Element AWD as a service Vehicle and Mercedes Sprinter that is my main work truck from before they used the DEF crap and had 33 computers onboard running the thing!

The key for me to the Sprinter life is just knowing a great mechanic from Europe who understands and knows them but the Sprinter has also been just as reliable for me as the others and I get insane MPG as well!

I had a Suburban a long while back before swearing off Domestic that had crap break that I am not even sure the Honda and Toyota vehicles have on them to break?

 

I got sick of my 2016 tacoma shifting weird and no power. Sold it and lost 20k in mods. (Should have kept it). I bought a new Denali Duramax. It was in the shop 5 times in the first month, was huge to park, a dog to drive. Traded it for a new Raptor. Drove the Raptor 9 months and missed the quality of my Toyotas, the Raptor people are dicks the community sucks. Traded it on an almost base Tundra ordered Kings etc for it.

 

Was that a 6.6 Duramax HD or the new 3.0?

 

6.6 the new one wasnt shipping yet. I had the DEF limp issues, the grill fell apart, switches inside didn't work.

 

I'm not regretting not buying a GM. I'm just hoping my brother doesn't end up regretting buying his.

 

what about the raptor didnt you like with regard to qc?

 

I loved my Ecoboost for all 58,000 miles I owned it. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the rest of the truck had issues.

Nice Raptor and the exact color I would go for. I'd be lying if I said I don't still stop by the Ford dealers looking at them time to time...but can't make myself do it. If I knew I'd get a good one I would in a heartbeat, but......

 

You have to be shitting me. I wouldn’t buy a Ford just based on that video.

 

Yeah, Ford is like that. I just used a pump to suck the oil out of the diff thru the fill hole. Was going to do the front diff, but it's so tucked up it's nearly impossible to reach the fill hole.

 

I did both my diffs and t-case and all were very easy to change fluids

 

I have to be honest - aside from the “Fish Car” (1997 Ford Taurus) that we bought for dirt cheap years ago, we’ve never had huge issues with Ford.

2004 Ford F-150 - drivers‘ mirror @ 20K.
2008 Fusion - no issues in 130K
2013 F150 - no issues in 123K.

With that said, we bought our first Toyota (a 2000 4Runner) in 2011, and that was it for me....I finally understood the deal with Toyota’s and reliability and all that. Even when I bought the ‘13 F150, it was because I couldn’t afford the Tundra at the time. I’m 2018 we bought my wife her ‘12 Highlander, and last Friday I got my ‘20 Tundra, and will stay Toyota until I shuffle off this mortal coil.

cold start rattle. Possibly Cam Phasers from new. Service "could not duplicate" not surprised.

the welds, lines were all crooked, the paint was soft chipped easily just street driving, the fiberglass didn't line up, sharp edges everywhere so when I washed it it would snag rags,cut me. Exterior trim pieces were falling apart

The seat leather stretched pretty bad and I'm way light for a guy.
The interior pieces fit like a child put it together. Everything rattles inside.

the exhaust rusted really bad. It had 4000 miles on it and i kept it washed.

you could see the running boards bend when my 145 lb self would step on them to get in.

towing with it was really weird experience. I would say it was like a sled drag race instead of just pulling normally, the transmission just didn't know what to do so it would kick down a couple of gears over and over and go into high boost.

It would not track strait down the freeway, the tires would hop off the ground and I would have to constantly correct it. It was tiring to drive.

i had it tuned and it fixed transmission shifting randomly for normal driving added 100ftlbs torque. But before that it was getting lots of misfires on 91 octane just driving normally , different plugs helped. Id worry about the engine lasting past 80k like a toyota motor lasting double or triple that.

i worried about its depreciation, it is a lot of money to leave unattended in parking lots. I worried about it parked in parking lots getting dings etc enough that I didn't drive it. People would mess with it, it was run into 2 times while I had it.

 

That’s a pretty damning testimonial.

I echo the others’ lack of surprise that the Raptor community would contain at least some bully-ish, know it all, one-uppers. Sounds like a welcoming crew.
