Harness for Backup Camera?

I just ordered an

$280 Alpine ILX-W650 7" Double DIN Touchscreen Digital Multimedia Receiver with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Alpine ILX-W650 head unit from Crutchfield and an Axxess steering wheel control module and a harness designed for Toyota to connect it. I bought a Metra harness and dash kit with the unit. Everything connected and realize there’s no camera connections on the harness. Is there an adapter I need to be able to connect the factory camera? Everything else seems to work, but did not program the steering controls yet.

Also a weird issue, but when I use Bluetooth, it sounds like it’s playing through the front speakers only and when switching to radio, it plays through all the speakers and sounds great, but I never listen to the radio.

 

Reached out to Metra and there is an adapter for an aftermarket to use the factory camera system. Crutchfield technical support could not help me with the issue and I bought the gear from them and the suggested adapters.

Why did you chose the Axxess steering wheel control module over the maestro idatalink?

Yep, Metra has you covered. You need the AX-TOYCAM3-6V. This harness includes the 6v step down so you don't destroy your factory camera.

I've used this harness multiple times with good results.

 

Price and I got what was recommended by Crutchfield.

 

That is the one I ordered. I just have to wait on it and install it this weekend.

 

Everything works great. With the Axxess steering wheel controller, it auto programmed itself so I didn’t have to do anything other than connect the harness and the backup cam harness was easy to connect. In all, I had 3 harnesses behind the unit, but the Alpine ilx 650 has a shallow mount so no fighting with wires behind the unit.

 

Do you to cut into any wiring from truck wiring itself? Or is the AX-TOYCAM3-6V plug and play? I just got it and am installing the alpine ILX-207 tomorrow.

 

It is plug and play. It was surprisingly easy to do. They have a website to tell you what wire goes to what. I tied the power and ground with the aftermarket stereo harness where it ties into the Metra stereo harness. It was a little overwhelming connecting 3 harnesses- the stereo, steering control, and the backup camera. I didn’t have to splice into any factory wires or remove any PINs in the factory harness like the directions had in it. The backup camera harness was the easiest one to connect of the 3.

 

Did your camera quality seem to go down? I feel like mine looked better on the factory HU than it does on the ILX-207.

 

I haven't really paid much about the quality, but what I don't particularly care for are the green, yellow, and red cones that are on the display when you are backing up. I saw where you can adjust the length of each line, but no where to remove the cones. I thought it looked a little cheesy.

alpine ilx-w650 HU, Axess steering wheel controls but I added dedicated Alpine HDR back up camera. Very nice. wide angle.
I had to run cabling though but not too bad.

 

there is an option to remove lines and cones in the camera settings but maybe it only applies to alpine cameras paired with the alpine HU.

 

I just figured that out a couple of days ago and was going to post. I do notice that the quality is not as good too. I messed around the settings hoping maybe it would make it better, but it's close to the same. As long as I can see though, that is all that matters.
